Just shot a short video for those who may not have heard a Jalpa lately... it's just me driving the Jalpa home from its short daily "stretch" this evening*, and it occuring to me that the camera takes videos....(Yes, car is sold, paid in full, but the buyer hasnt picked it up yet, so I am keeping it "warm" for him.) [* Be warned, its a grumbly and frustrated Jalpa - it's a low speed, unplanned, neighborhood video with me avoiding many pedestrians and dogs and golfers. So you only get the "beginning" of the symphony here. (When you get a stretch of road and depress the pedal in third, fourth, and fifth gear, and the carbs kick in - that's when the hairs on your neck stand up, but thats not here)... TURN UP THE SPEAKERS ANYWAY! Even at these low speeds, you can kind of get the feeling...The sound is better than the video, frankly. Heres "What to Look For"... A) me giving my lovely girlfriend silent direction to shoot the road ahead. ("discussion" we had later in the garage - film at 11). B) the number of pedestrians that appear when driving (especially the nice large couple that just "drifts" across the entrance to the subdivision - leaving my backend exposed to the road behind me - and the unseen truck bearing down - you can hear it pass if you listen carefully. C) Me not pressing the car beyond second gear. (see above) D) The car still sounding good - even though it hates to be driven this slowly. E) My wholly inappropriate Pininfarina keychain. hi i've been searching for ages for Jalpa videos, never seen one in action. this streaming video bizzo doesn't werk for me, i like to download stuff and play in my own player. is there another link or could you email it to me if under 10mb? [email protected] car looks sweet and i want to HEAR this amazing Jalpa sound i keep hearing about.
I just checked it again and it seems to work for me. I was hoping it would work as well for everyone else as it does for me - I figured it would, b/c I use Firefox (its pretty strict about plugins) - it seems to play within your browser's QuickTime plug in. Is it not working from a tech. standpoint or do you just maintain a security policy about not opening streaming video online? It shouldn't ask you for anything. (The original file is 15MB, and would take forever to squeeze through to you). darn! C
i'm a geek so normally this stuff isn't a problem, my security's tight on firefox and so i only use IE on stuff that i trust and can't do in FF, but it duzna werk there either. usually on those sort of pages i just go through the html source and find the file it's loading, however some of this newer tricky technology (which i use myself ) loads stuff dynamically or obfuscates the file source to make it too much hassle.
Darn. Any idea why? I just found the site, tested some stupid video they had on there, saw that it worked, and loaded mine... Works fine in Firefox for me, and I also checked the link in Netscape 6.2, and it works fine in that browser as well.... I see that it is Windows Media 9.1 codec, not QT as I thought, and I saw a brief "RealMedia" url at one point. (but I dont use RealPlayer)....Im afraid Im not an engineer.... I just hit the link, and it loads. ideas?
video worked great for me, thanks for the heads up. sorry i missed your fine Jalpa when it was for sale. pm reply sent . Michael
Awesome car... Too bad you sold it, I'm sure your getting something better. Thats the first I've ever seen (in a movie) or heard a Jalpa. Very nice. Sounds like my old Z/28. Nothing wrong with that (in my opinion.) Cheers, Joel
This seems like as good a place as any to ask what the performance numbers are on Jalpas. Can you give us some ideas? I always thought they were limited in terms of top speed, but that aftermarket ideas may help. Comments?
Here is the video at Rapidshare...(but I havent tested it) http://rapidshare.de/files/3440227/RIDE_HOME_IN_JALPA.MOV.html Collin
Heres some additional data on the (1983) Jalpa...From 'Supercars Encyclopedia'... Might have to squint. C (BTW - Raymond at http://www.Jalpa.ch is a great resource for all things Jalpa!) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks! Your car sure has a lot more torque than the 308. Aren't you tempted to get some huge wheels and tires to fill those wheel wells? That would be incredible! I see my XJS in there will all the horsepower in the world...and STILL it's slow! Wes
I love XJSs - A '95 coupe is absolutely on my list..blue with creme/blue piped interior...they are so beautiful.... also - check out Jeff's awesome white Jalpa - he installed beautiful tires on his - he posted a photo in this other current/Jalpa-related FChat thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67488&goto=newpost
Ya I saw that, that's what got me thinking, but he's not posting any more pics. I found another on e-bay now...looks like the front end is a bit different. I love them with the wing too, must be a Countach wing, no? How long have you had yours, it looks fantastic in black. I have a black 328 so I "understand the color". Here's also a pic of the Jag, thanks for the compliment on them. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That is a pretty cool Jalpa. The engine on that car is amazingly clean. Also - look again! - my car is blue! - Its called Acapulco Blue Metallic, factory color, and it changes based on how the light hits it (from blue to grey/purple to black).... (I had a black porsche though, have a black benz right now, want a black 308 - I love Black).
