They gave the dude 39MM and he instantly became an apathetic fat ass! IIRC, he even held out!

    Character? I think not.

LOL, called that crap since the NFL draft he was in. I never understood the hype about him. I follow SEC football closely and LSU always won without his "efforts." He is seriously an idiot or something and has terrible "football IQ." All he has is the physical requirements. Don't feel sorry for him one bit...he became a millionaire and didn't even earn it.

Hopefully he'll be smart enough to not spend it all.

If David Carr can end up as a back-up somewhere J.R. could too. Although Carr didn't do quite as bad.

Rome just went with a hilarious analogy. "You don't just do porn, you end up in porn. You don't want to go to the Raiders, you end up on the Raiders."

    lol

Lane Kiffin did NOT want to even draft him, Davis said 'we are drafting him', and when Lane could not make him into a top-flight QB, Lane was gone. Not that I like Lane...

Last I heard he was arrested on a skateboard in SoCal somewhere. Seriously.

Being a lifelong Chargers fan I am kind of sad to see JR go. I don't agree with some reports that he has exceeded Ryan Leaf status as of yet though. He's still a few domestic violence charges on a reporter followed by a home invasion for pills.

That being said, I wouldn't be too confident Jason Cambell is the guy to turn it around in Oakland if I were a Raider fan.

Long live Al Davis...and Charger dominance over the turds.

I don't disagree with you at all as far as your outlook with Campbell is concerned.

And you don't need to call them the turds - it wasn't too long ago the same was said about the Chargers.
Now let's see if SD has a defense that can stop anyone, they better have an offense that can put up 50 points a game, because they are going to need it.

No kidding. And it's not like the Chargers have any playoff success to brag about over the last decade either. If anything, they've been a bigger disappointment than the Raiders.

And he's not going to get it.
    And he shouldn't.

If he does, it will pretty much wreck ALL contracts that defer payments - which is what owners have to do to keep under the salary cap.
However, this SHOULD be a lesson to all the owners not to give a rookie near that much, no matter who they are. *I* knew going in he was going to be a bust - watching him - or - actually watching the teams he faced in the SEC was a great indication of how this was going to turn out. I didn't think he would be THAT bad, but he was.
I figured we would perform around the David Garrard level - OK, but not an all-pro.

Beating Oakland 14 times in a row does give you bragging rights over them especially in this division.

No we haven't carried that regular season success into the postseason with Rivers winning only three playoff games. That should change when you have as much talent as they still have and an elite quarterback.

Our defense definitely needs to create more pressure on the quaterback. That's our huge glaring hole, we will see what guys like Vaughn Martin and Alfonso Boone can do this year. Martin is extremely powerful, extremely big, and was extremely raw when we drafted him out of Canada. Losing Jamal was not a huge loss, I love the guy and appreciate his service but he got his respect nationally about 8 years later than he should have. Getting rid of Cromartie was long overdue. Cason should do just fine as he is much better at understanding zone defensive strategy.

All the **** I have heard in my life while the Raiders were pounding us I have every right to say whatever it is I want about them but really I stopped caring so much to even do so around the 8th straight. I don't hate the Raiders and really think football suffers when they are in such a pitiful state as they have been the last 8 years.

This statement should be on ESPN, just brilliant. One team wins a ring each year unfortunately. Our only shot so far this decade at a title game we showed up with Complainian on the bench and our superstar quaterback grinding it out without a connected acl to speak of. We have been pisspoor in games like most recently vs the jets.

You wouldn't think the NFL's most prolific kicker of all time would shank 3 field goals in a one point game, as a Charger fan you gotta be tough because losing games like that hurts like hell, and we are used to it.

Not only that but what I saw it as Al telling would be free agent signees that he'll sue if they don't perform to "his" standards, however warped they may be.

Now, the precious few guys who'd have gone to Oaktown to play, won't.

He can sue all he wants, but a contract is a contract, if a rookie signs a contract that says he will be paid X dollars if he performs Y statistics, fine, but the rookie -er- his agent - better have a clue.

Don't sign a contract you cannot fulfill.

I'm all for paying guys well - that perform well - Matt Stafford appears to be worth what he got, JR wasn't.
I'm all for paying the guys in the trenches big bucks as well, without them a 'skill position' player won't do a thing.

But the next question is, what if you are a player that gets a million dollar bonus if you get, say 1,000 yards receiving, and it's the last game of the year and you have 995 yards and they don't even throw to you? It's happened.

Well, by the looks of his play on the field, we can rest assured he was not using 'performance enhancing drugs'. LOL
