I have a silver spec Miata that I'd like to paint a tri-color racing stripe that looks like the pic below, or like Rob's 355 Challenge. HW, painting the Italian tri-color on a Miata just seems wrong. The problem is that the Japanese livery color is white, which doesn't work on a silver car. I guess that I could do a red/white/red. Any suggestions? Hmmm...Looks familiar. I took these at FoH back in May '03. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Dale, how "Japanese" do you want it to look vs. the Challenge look? One option is to use a scheme similar to Toyota's. Or, another approach is to say f-it and paint it like the 360. I saw FFords painted like the Ferrari F1 cars and they actually looked pretty cool.
How many "Detroit" machines have you seen with the Confederate flag on them in NASCAR? (Michigan wasn't a southern state, last time I looked.) Paint a Red/White/Blue on it for the driver. Or a Rising Sun for the car. Or a Union Jack for Austin Powers. Most people just don't care anymore. If you're one of the ones that do, then please yourself. (But then why is your Japanese car silver?) If you're not one of the ones that care, then please yourself.
How about a metallic white stripe with a red circle in the middle of the hood? Or a pattern with the rising sun like a starburst with red lines extending out of a red sun to the edges of the car. 1 Minute Renditions: Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Don't take this the wrong way, Ryan, but the second car looks like it got hit with a paint ball! Maybe some possibilities in the first one.
Dale, I think your car would look awesome with the "Challenge" colors. There is a very cool looking Miata that races here on the East Coast done up in the old official Gulk Motorsport cars of the 60's and 70's (remember the Ford GT's and the Porsche 917's). The car get's jaw dropping looks from first timers. There was also a Grand Am Cup and SSB Miata painted in the official Mazda LeMans colors of the famous (and to date only over all winning Japanese LeMans car) 787B Prototype racer. It looked awesome. Lastly you could copy the Toyota GT 1 color scheme which uses the official red and white Japanese colors. Regards, Jon P. Take it to HighTech on Heights and tell them "stripe it!".....than go across the street and get some Hickory Hollow ribs while ya wait!
Sorry, Hightech Signs......in the old boxing gym behind Rockefellers'. They have done 100% of my kart graphics, as well as the Art Car. Stripes would be easy! There is a removable vinyl that will peel off up to two years later without damage....
I like something along the lines of Ryan's second idea. An offset sun with hard angular rays outward. Image Unavailable, Please Login
carrying the idea along........... (boyz & girlz; don't try this @ FL37 in coach.........sorry for the poor dwg. quality) Image Unavailable, Please Login
You might have to order a RACK of ribs then, for that one! LOL! They could do it, though.............
Now combining both ideas, you can have a white strip that goes down the central line of the car, with the sun limited to the white strip portion, while still offset slightly and spreading outward.
