Jason Kidd gave his gold medal to Steve Wynn's wife: http://www.comcast.net/sports/russakoffrules/9440/kiddgivesawaygoldmedal/
Looks like there will be a silver on E-bay soon too...http://in.reuters.com/article/worldOfSport/idINIndia-35066720080818 at least the money garnered from the men's gymnastics silver medal will go towards a good cause whereas the mens b-ball gold will probably end up as a bauble in the mansion of a billionaire.
i dont understand why you all are upset. he gave it to a friend who accommodated them while they were training... its a token of his appreciation. nothing sinister. a piece of history that wynn will probably display in his casino. plus he actually already has a gold from sydney
it's one thing to auction or sell it off for charity, but to give it to a billionaire's wife just for being nice, that's a different story. i like to think of myself as a fairly nice guy, michael phelps has a few of those hanging up in his closet, think he'll share?
What could have Steve Wynn done other than the typical high roller treatment......free food, maybe a shopping spree, maybe even a free Ferrari, but thats assuming Jason Kidd spent serious money at the tables.
When you've earned well over $200 million dollars in a very successful professional career, what value does an Olympic gold-medal hold, especially considering you already have another? Seriously... what may hold value to us, or others, means little to a certain few who live at another level. . .
Agreed. He is a classic example of one with great values. I don't believe gambling is the reason why he was treated so well. Good energy brings good energy. And I can only imagine the "Thank You and You're Welcome" moments that went down.
No wonder they almost lost. The game and the medal meant nothing to him. What a dumb ass. There's a reason casinos give you "free" rooms. And it's not because they like you. Jason Kidd must have an IQ of about 20.
A gold medal is not something that's supposed to have cash value to those that win them. It does not matter if he had $200,000,000,000,000,000 in the bank. It would have sentimental value to anyone that real gives a ****. A symbol of National pride. Obviously it means nothing to Jason. He gave it away a week later to some broad who gave him a hotel room for three weeks like some crackhead with a gambling debt. What a total chump. He should of never been given it in the first place. If he wants to repay Mrs. Wynn, he should just pay for his freaking room next time. If he does not appreciate the medal, he should not of been on the team.
Because of this highly irregular activity, NBA will possibly be put in position of investigating whether in the past, present or future, Brownie Points were earned or redeemed [Blackmail for Shaving Points in the past? Did he confide in Mrs. Wynn?] by giving an Olympic Gold Medal to a Casino/Sportsbook Owner's Wife. Regardless of outcome, bettors, fans and NBA may come to question anything smelling fishy as "Are you Kidding?"
Could it just be Baller/Pimp posturing? He's got so much bling that another Olympic gold is just taking up space... "Yeah I won a gold medal, but I already had one so I gave the new one away..."
Nothing, especially when he didn't earn such a "prestigious" award. I quoted prestigious because it obviously didn't mean **** to Jason Kidd. If he were to auction it off for charity or give it to his biggest fan who's dying of some rare disease, then it would be truly genuine and I'd respect it. The word D0uche comes to mind.
It will probably end up on display in the Wynn next to a big picture of Jason Kidd. That's a pretty big ego stroke, plus he'll get whatever he wants comped from there for life... That does a lot more good than sitting in his house. Or. He just has a huge gambling debt he wants wiped clean.
I don't know if I would consider Jason Kidd one with "great values". He regularly throws his coach under the bus and is an active locker room cancer. He was holding out on the Nets when he wanted to be traded, and he got Byron Scott fired from the Nets. I won't say anything about his personal life, because that's not part of his professional life as a basketball player, but needless to say, I am not a fan.
Kidd entered the NBA with trouble licking at his heels....he has a way of being a royal pain in the arse wherever he goes....yuck!, one of my LEAST favorite professional athletes....
