Jaguar, contrary to their Gorgeous ad campaign, has done nothing but boring and bland cars for years. But I hear they have a top secret $450,000 to $500,000 car that is a "go" called the XR that will be sold in the U.S. It has Lamborghini type doors and don't know what the engine is, but the style is finally aggressive and it is meant to compete with the likes of Ferrari.

The Aston Martin V-8 is a Jag engine and the Jag XK is an Aston Martin body..what a series of disappointments to the Jaguar history. Hope the new car is a LOT better.

I have to doubt this as Ford is losing a ton w Shaguar

The new XK is not that great w a huge buttt

They need a new xke to recharge Shaguar. I wonder how long it will take them to figure this out

A good place to start is to get rid of that Ford focus front end.

More likely an exageration from the recent Ford press conference announcing the proposed 'XKR-R': an even further up rated engine, suspension...etc than the XKR

The Ford VP said "We are making a Jaguar Supercar, it will be an even more aggressive version of the XKR. We haven't named it yet, but look for output to slightly exceed 500 horsepower."

After he was asked why it was being built, this is what he said "We want to attack Ferrari and Lamborghini on their own turf. The Ford GT was a great start, but it didn't have the name that Jaguar has, especially in Europe. And Aston (Martin) doesn't sell in certain parts of Europe. So we figured that we'd give our next super engine to an XK Jaguar. People in the U.S. and Europe alike will think twice before buying an Italian supercar when they see our new XK supercar".

When asked about pricing for the XKR-R "we haven't gotten there yet, I mean we just finished the XKR. But if I had to guess, I'd say it'll be in the 110 to 130 thousand range."

    XKR-R? That's pretty sad....

Think I'll wait for the "XKR-R^2 Anniversary Edition"

If Jag has the funds to make a 450,000 supercar, then why does the xk still have a wip antenna?

The source is a very prominent sports star who has been given a preview of the car, it is said to have Lamborghini style doors and (unlike very other Jag in the last 20 years) an aggressive design, but a price tag of $450,000+. I am confident the car has at least been shown (perhaps without drivetrain) to prospective customers, but not sure it has really been approved for production.

Am I the only one here who likes the XJ220?

I'm seeing the prospect of a new Jaguar supercar as a great oppurtunity for the company to finally revamp how it is seen by the general public.

the XJ220 was absoultely gorgeous but it shares vision problems w the Lambos

I heard from a guy who drove 1 that another problem was that the car is SO fast that you cant see far enough down the road for the speed

Also I wouldnt want to have to find parts for it

I did too. V6, even turbo'd is just not as sexy or exotic as a V or flat 12. Hopefully they'll do it right this time and not wimp out....

Strict emmission laws put a damper on the V12 efforts which was originally planned for the car, therefore they had to settle for a V6 with turbos instead. Probably one of the major dissappointments for people who had put down deposits on the car at the time.

If i recall correctly, When Jeremy Clarkson tested the XJ220 years ago on the BBC special, He mentioned that each tire was 800 pounds (around 1994) can only imagine the other non-engine costs now :)

This could work but it would have to be everything the Vanquish and the DB9 are and are not to compete with anything from Ferrari. Ferrari is light years ahead of anything from the Ford group. Lambo's an entrely different market almost. Jaguar should be competing squarely with Maserati and Porsche in the coupe segment and I don't think they can do that, especially as sharp as everything is that's coming from Porsche these days.

Strategically it's just a drain from the Aston budget because competing head-to-head with Ferrari is Aston's mission, not Jaguar's. They need to spend this money on the Jaguar sedans and bring them up to par with BMW, MB and Maserati.

Actually, the more I think about it the sillier this entire concept is, especially given the bland styling of the new XK and the overall hot-air balloon that the Ford GT was.

Unless they really rethink there strategic position and overall aims, this will be another Ford fiasco. Ford is in no position financially to compete head-to-head with anyone, except with trucks and SUVs.

I bet the XR is just a copy of the GT. or that other coupe concept, that had the shiny body, you could see your face it it.

That and the change from 4wd to rwd were also disappointing for the people who paid the deposits
