Dead pan reply; "No". (they won't know how much it cost anyway, and it will wind them up as they won't know if they've outsmarted you or not) ;-) Or... "No... could you?". Straight faced answers, although that will probably be sent into a fit of steaming rage-fury as there isn't an answer to that which will make them look good! hehehe!!
Face it guys, to 90% of the population, and probably half the owners, a Ferrari is a status symbol. My MIL thinks I have it for show. Of course, she doesn't know me at all and understand my love for cars. Even my wife sometimes takes her side and when I give her the "look" she relents and agree's her mother doesn't understand (she's just defending her mother like all daughters do). Of course, I have a 'cheap on' and most poeple don't know what it is anyway. But I've not had negative comments. Just ricers riding the bumper from time to time.
My daily driver is the new Charger Daytona PKG. bright orange, people will always turn their heads and look, thumbs up, etc... When I drive the 308 or the TR, most of the people look but don't dare turn their heads, like they don't want you to know that they are looking at your Ferrari, I swear, I think some people can make their eyeballs go all the way around and never move their neck.
Dont feel too bad guys. I get people almost crashing into me as they are trying to inconspicuously take pics with their camera phones (my Noble). I really have to be watching at all times. 9/10 people ask the same damn questions, every time I park anywhere, get gas, or even several have followed me off of the freeway and stalked me until I stop at a light so they can ask questions. Always "what the **** is that?" "Who makes a noble? (Noble...)" "Is it fast?" "is it a v12?" "whats it cost" "what do you do for a living" or even "is that an MR2 with a body kit? a lotus? porche? ferrari?" Annoying as hell. True "CAR" people only ask 1-2 questions: type of engine, power, weight. But I would probably ask questions too I suppose. Then there are the people that lean on it, put their hands on it, tell their friends a lot of missinformation about it. Its funny, I just sit or stand next to it and listen. a lot of fun. Most people never assume that I would be the owner so the comments fly. I never get negative comments when I'm driving (except once, downtown, drunk guy said it was my dads). But may be that exotics are more commonplace in so cal.
I always love reading thru the "comments" threads. Sure, we all get comments. I have to say, I get mostly positive feedback. I get thumbs up from people driving with traffic or against. Stares, of course, from men, women and children. The younger children I generally smile and wave back and they have that priceless smile. Adults I usually give a wink and a nod like to say, "thank you". Those on this forum that have driven with me know i usually am wearing faded old jeans, a cheap t shirt and a baseball hat. Thats me. Low key and comfortable. Do I get snide comments?? Im sure I do, but I usually have Metallica or some other loud band blaring with the top down and I dont hear them. Opinion are like ash holes --Everyone has one.
