Massa's DQ: "He did not pay attention, he was concentrating on going out, not having any car passing him, and we did not tell him anything." Todt admitted that unlike the Renault team that could not see the red light from pit lane, the Ferrari crew did in fact see the red light.

Kimi's Problems: "Yeah, he had some problems, he slightly touched a car (Massa) at the start, and then he got some parts of the crashed car in his front wing, as you all could see, and definetely damaged the performance of his car." Additionally Todt stated that Kimi had trouble with the super soft tyres at the end.

Hamilton's Win: "He's doing a great job with a great car with a great team, and he's able to put everything together, but the season is not yet finished."

Just heard a story that JT has backed off on his earlier comments and has now acknowledged that the team should have informed Massa of the red light so he could concentrate on position.

It seems to me the red light was on for a very long time. Was that a mistake by the officials??? The normal exit is at speed once you pass the line and then do not cross the white blend line. Watching it again was chaos behind as cars stacked up and then someone starts to pass the group stopped. I don't remember seeing anything like that during a race. The red light is normally practice for a clear entrance.

Doesn't matter whether it was accidentally left on for the whole race ... you cannot leave the pit lane with it red.

Massa, from all his years of racing, should have been aware of that, this is not for the team to remind HIM of racing rules ... any red light you do not pass. Gosh would he not know what to do if the race was red flagged, for example.

    Pete
ps: Even his karting days would have had the same regulation ... red light means STOP!

Massa wasn't the only one who passed the red light and much confusion went on behind him. I don't remember that happening before. There is alot going on after a pit stop and it would be possible to miss it in the heat of the battle if the red light is not normally used during the race. Several of the drivers coming out seemed perplexed.

Is all about how you read the rules book.

Aloso pit in with red light thats means that the pit was close so he exit the pit with red light to also Kimi and Trulli overtook Kubica and luizzi just after they go out of the pit lane under yellow flag and Safety Car so they should have been penalised.

for the record Hamilton cross the yellow line in the pit exit in Monaco he should have been penalised

 Sorry you're going to have to provide better proof than that sub-par shot. It looks like he's against the line to me. At worst on the line, not over the line. Get a clearer, better angle and I'll agree with you.

His team short-filled his car because they were trying to ruin his championship challenge. Oops, sorry, wrong thread...

Rest assured, the team informes him if and when the race is black flagged. The driver focusses on ...well... the actual driving, the team guides the driver through any circumstance that is relevant for the race, but hasn't got anything to do with the actual driving of the car. Sure, Massa should've seen the red light, but the team also screwed up by not informing him.

That's exactly what I wanted to see. :)

Now I've been looking through the sporting regulations and I can't find anything on the Pit Lane exit line and clarification of the rule. Specifically I'm wondering what the definition of crossing the line is. Hamilton is clearly on the line but it doesn't appear he's over the line. What I mean by that is it doesn't appear his front left tire patch has crossed off of the yellow line and touched the racing surface. Therefore he's on the line but not over it.

Conceivably that line could be five feet wide and he could drive along it all day long and until one of his tires touches the outside racing surface he's legal. Just because his car is on the line doesn't mean he's over it. http://www.formula1.com/insight/rulesandregs/20/5257.html

Driver though HAS to know the regulations and what to do ... what happens if the radio is not working.

Massa has no excuse, this was his fault. Again every driver in ANY level of motorracing has to know the flag/light rules.

You have to remember that Massa has been racing since he was a child ... he SHOULD thus know these things as well as how to change his own underpants.

You guys don't understand - Massa drives for an Italian team, and in Italy a red light is merely a suggestion!

I was trying to say that ONLY Massa screwed up, as it is his responsibility to drive the car and know these rules.

Anyway ... does not matter anymore :).
