Interesting, not a bad match. I don't envision him over there......but maybe that could change.

Button is in last year of five year contract.
Barrichello and Schumacher are contracted with Ferrari through 2006.

The way I understand it, Button is obligated to Williams vis-a-vis Renault which opted to "loan" him out to BAR.

The contract negotiations would get tricky here and it would mean Ferrari
would need to write some major checks to get Button in the fold. It sounds more to me like the new "flavor of the month" is just the next hot new boy
who may (or may not) be in Ferrari's sights.

Remembering how last year before Montoya signed with McLaren, his deal with Ferrari was also done. Dont believe anything in this business until you see the official press conferences.

I think it would be nice to see an italian driver replace schumi or barichello but only when they are done. JMO

I really think that guy is going to be really good. He is good now but just think how he would be in a Ferrari.

With the erratic one headed for the glorious state of McClaren, JB is likely headed back to Grove where Sir Frank will squeeze him into Juan's former ride... The real question may be who replaces the spiralling downward Ralf...

I like JB but if he is to hold the rains of Ferrari, I hope he improves considerably. 2006 is coming quickly.

I agree with Tom. Let's wait a while. A guy starts winning in F1 and suddenly all the rumors start flying that Ferrari is talking with said driver.

Remember the week after Alonso got his first win. Rumors were flying all over the place that Ferrari was in talks with Flavio about Alonso.

Despite his bad start I still think Kimi is the best driver other than Schumacher, but a cold Finn with a fiery Italian team don't seem like a good fit either.

I think Alonso would be a good fit but haven't decided if he is as good as everyone thinks he is.

Will be interesting to see. One thing I have noticed is that Schumacher is being very cordial to Jenson and seems to be enjoying JB's success (they even hugged at Imola after getting out of their cars). Anyone think MS is going to be a determining factor in who get's picked after he retires?

I sure as hell don't remember him being that nice or happy about Alonso or Kimi winning a race or doing well.

    Regards,

Apparently Webber and MS get on very well too ... maybe because MS is NOT threatened by them?

in all honesty i doubt that ferrari has more than a " if both ms and rb both broke their legs who would we get" idea in reality 1. f1 changes so quikly every couple of months it is a new future ms killer kr, jpm, fa, mw, jb etc etc and 2. when ms steps down they can have a pick of anyone they want(and have the money to aquire them)

I don't believe it for a minute. Jenson is clearly #1 in a team on the rise that might well replace Ferrari as the top team in F1 in a couple of years. When Michael calls it quits in a couple of years in all likelihood Brawn, Byrne, and Todt will probably pack it in as well and what do you have left? I think you will see Jenson at BAR for a while if they start winning races. The team is solidly behind him and he has Dave Richards support.

Very good insight. Especially with Honda becoming more involved the chance of them being a legitimate heir to the throne of Ferrari seems like a big possibility.

Most of the speculations I have heard have hinted that Kimi could be in consideration for a spot in the Ferrari when MS's contract runs out. I do believe Kimi has great potential, but right now he's in a sub par car.

However, the best thing that Ferrari can hope for is that Schumacher remains a part of the team even when his driving days are over. His talents not only as a pilot, but also in the pits makes his feedback priceless.

Despite what happened at Imola, I think JPM, KR, MW, FA and JB all have the sheer speed and ability to win GPs in a competitive package. However, at this time, I feel that MW, JB and FA (Renault was good last year, but still not as good as the Big Three. And the 04 season is still a little too early to tell) have shown more of the maturity that is needed to be a future WDC. I think being in a lesser team has helped them in how to build a team around them and how to develop and adopt to their cars and not to take things for granted. As for the future Ferrari pilots in the post-MS era, we will just have to wait and see who emerges first into a total package.
