From F1Live.com Vettel quickest at Jerez circuit Tue 22 Jul, 05:01 PM Only two days after the German Grand Prix, the great majority of the Formula One teams gathered again to begin a four-day test programme on the Spanish circuit of Jerez. Only the Force India team was absent. Weather conditions were perfect with the Sun shining all day and temperatures gradually moving into the blistering mid-thirty degrees Celsius range, with an additional ten degrees on the track. The teams are planning on testing development work for the upcoming Hungarian Grand Prix and beyond, but much time was also spent today on evaluating the latest Bridgestone slick tyres ahead of the 2009 season. Aboard the STR3, Toro Rosso driver Sebastian Vettel established the session's quickest lap of 1:19.844 over the 4.4-kilometre track. Gary Paffett and Luca Badoer completed fast runs within a second of Vettel's best, at the controls of their respective McLaren Mercedes MP4-23 and Ferrari F2008 machines. Nico Hulkenberg was the first driver to record a fastest lap beyond the one-second mark as he worked on the Williams FW30, followed by Sebastian Buemi's Red Bull RB4 and Romain Grosjean's Renault R28. The Toyota TF108 of Jarno Trulli was seventh-quickest, slightly ahead of the Honda RA108 driven by Alex Wurz. Of note, BMW Sauber ran a KERS-equipped car for the first time during official testing. Unfortunately, as he was about to push it back into the garage, a mechanic received an electrical shock when he touched the car, falling to the ground with slight injuries to his left hand and arm. He resumed his duties later on following a medical check. The team did not run the modified F1.07 this afternoon while it investigated the cause of the incident. Christian Klien having only completed three installation laps before returning to the garage, he recorded no official time and therefore appears on the bottom of today's list.
