    Remarkable driver
    I had the pleasure of watching him at several Tasman Series in the 60's and was present when he won his last Grand Prix (Australian, non-championship then) in February '68

    Off by 10 days...

    I still have newspaper clippings from his fatal accident. I would have been 15 years old at that time. I remember my mother coming outside and telling me she had just heard the news on the radio.

    Probably my earliest Motorsport memory is Jimmy in a Lotus Cortina going thru Bottom Bend at Brands.

    On two wheels.

    Lap after lap. :)

    PS - Thinking about it, may be one of my earliest memories....... ;)

    He was truly one of the greats in an era when driver error and mechanical failure frequently resulted in something much worse than a mere DNF. May he never be forgotten.

    Searching around for a JYS quote (something like, "he never forced a car'), I bounced into the following;

    Truly one of the Gods.

    You may not like Windsor, but this is a pretty good read if you want to know about Jimmy. The Unforgettable Jim Clark |

    Beautiful photo. Very much a loss that is hard to understand. A gent and is as missed as Senna. He simply had the 'gift'.

    I remember in 1964 going to the movie theater to see the Indy race. It was the first year that they had a live feed, but only at selected theaters across the country. Jimmy Clark was on the pole in his Lotus. Clark at the start jumped out to a massive lead, but then unfortunately there was a bad crash in the first or second lap and the race was stopped. During the crash cleanup, Clark was asked how he was able to get such a lead at the start. He answered something like, “well I will tell you at the end of the race.” Of course we now know that his Lotus had a 4 or 5 speed transmission, something not used at the time in the other front engine Indy cars. He was so special and such a nice guy.

    I saw him race at Mosport in a Lotus 19 along with Gendebien in a similar car. Poetry in motion. Have a signed picture of him on my wall to this day.

    I remember reading how nervous and fidgety his personality was outside the car, biting his nails etc., and the transformation that occurred when he stepped into it—smooth, calm, balanced...

    Yup! One of the greatest of all time. I recall Lotus came out with a Jimmy Clark edition Espirit in the mid 90's. Surprised that they're aren't more attempts to commemorate great driver's champions in the car biz.
