    Hi to all,
Just purchased my first Ferrari in October of 2009, a 1990 348 ts. It is well sorted out except the speedometer stopped working and the abs lights are on. The speedometer is more important to me as it does not move at all. On two occasions it started to work completely normally and then stopped again. It has not worked at all since. Any clues on what might be the problem? Might it be the sending unit on the transmission or is it in the speedometer itself? Would be grateful for any direction. Thanks,
    John

If I remember correctly, to prove that the speedo is good you can disconnect the wire at the sender and ground it by holding against the frame. If the speedo is good, it will peg to full speed when grounded temporarily. I no longer have the car so I can't try this again.

First of all, welcome to the 348 Brotherhood, and welcome to Ferrarichat.

    Now about you speedo problem.

It could be one of 2 things.

    1) The connector on the back of the speedometer has come loose. To check that you will need to remove the instrument pod.

    Simple job.

There are two screws, one on the bottom of each corner of the pod. Remove those screws.

Look under the steering column. You will see a lever, it is for adjusting the position of the column up or down. Pull that lever down to release the column, and lower it all the way down.

Now grab ahold of the sides of the pod and lift it straight up. If it doesn't want to come off try popping it up with a little bit more force. Don't bother looking for other screws holding it down because there aren't any. The only screws holding the pod in place are the 2 you remove from the corners. If it is stuck it could be from sitting on the rubber, under the pod, for so many years. So if needed juts give it a little more oompf.

Once you have the pod off have a look on the back of the speedo. Make sure the connector is seated properly on the back.

If all that checks out fine then it could be problem #2.

    2) The sending unit on the bottom left side of the gearbox has bit the dust.

You can see the sender by laying down near the bottom left wheel and looking up under the gear box. From just a pure visual check, look to make sure you don't have any busted wires, or that it some how isn't connected properly.

So have a look at those 2 things, and then get back to us on what you find, or don't find.
