I'm searching for a new job and typically just tossing my resume out there and see what bites (if any) I get. Although, ideally it would be something in the financial world (stocks/commodities) I'll take close to anything I can get. Typically when submitting your resume online there's a comment box as well. What are some ways I can make myself stand out amongst the other hundreds/thousands applicants?

Also maybe some unknown job search techniques and avenues I may have not though of or unaware of?

    Thanks.

What have you done to set yourself apart?

What is your degree in? From where? Many schools will help alums network to find jobs.

I'd concentrate on your personal network (school, parents, friends, friends' parents, etc) before I sent out a lot of stuff blind. There's a reason the old saying 'it's not what you know, it's who you know' exists. Because it's true.

    Thanks everyone.

It is indeed who you know and not what. I'm working on my networks now, but the couple quality ones I have just moved back to town within the past month or two and are working on starting their new networks here. But when their lives slow down in the next month will be working with me to at least give me the inside of their fields.

I have sent my resume to a contact through my dad. Apparently they are looking to expand in other branches. But that could be months before they begin their interview process.

Anthony, thanks for the links. I'll take a closer look when I have more time at home next week.
