I'm trying to reach John's younger brother Adam to see how John is doing
I talked too John's brother Adam yesterday and it was all good news - looks like John is in remission and doing very well On the other hand John's father, Mario's identical twin Aldo is not - You would have to go back many years ago to remember Aldo in sprint cars - back in the days when you raced on Sunday and buried then on Tuesday. He was a great racer but career ended in very bad wreck - in the hospital for almost a year - very nice guy - he stood in for pictures after Mario won the Indy 500 because Mario had been burned in a pit fire
Not. Mario got burned crashing his very fast Lotus 64 in practice; 'bad hubs that couldn't be replaced in time, which is why he reverted to his Hawk.
I was a fan of the real Lotus team (Colin's days). The '64 was a rocketship. Mucho disappointment for this kid. Some things you never fergit.
I was going in the Army about that time - did not know the Andretti's back then - just heard them telling stories at my house in the early 2000's - Aldo and Adam then
Lookee what I found...written nearly twenty years ago. Funny, I used to git the Star by mail back in the '60s for the month of May 'cause there was so much coverage of practice every day. It was 2 or 3 days late but it was better than not knowing (little racing coverage back then). A few friends enjoyed being kept up with the latest, too. https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/motor/indy-car/2014/05/23/archives-mario-andretti-won-indy-backup-car/9511869/
John is the only Andretti I ever like. joke " what do you call 5 Andretti's in the basement ? a whine cellar " ..
Not good news at all. Thoughts and prayers ... https://www.motorsport.com/nascar/news/john-andretti-reveals-cancer-has-returned-and-spread-1043093
Terrible news! My brother is a colon cancer survivor - it spread to his lymph nodes and IIRC, he was stage III / IV. He survived. Wishing him best of luck and continued energy to fight this.
Words that I do not like to hear. I wish John all the best in his continued fight. My thoughts and prayers to John and his entire family.....never give up!
