Definitely, World Champion on both 2 wheels and 4. I would have expected he would have been Sir John ages ago... Ian
Fans of Surtees should enjoy this: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=139069471&postcount=2
OK, he deserves it, at least so much as L. Hamilton, but why now? so much after he won WDC (1964)? it's because his son died in a motor racing accident?!
EXACTLY my thoughts. WHY has it taken 45 years to be recognized? he won the F1 WDC and was motoGP champ. the only driver who has ever done that. I'm pretty annoyed that he only received one now, right after his son died.
Thanks, I NEED to get down there. Is this a permanent display? Interesting they have the last car to run under Team Surtees. The exhibits look superb, much like Donington, and I believe that again like Donington and IMS, they all run? we had a petition going last year for 'Sir' John, came to nout unfortunately. Still proud to have worked for and got to know the man. Brian
Sorry, don't know the answer to either but I'm inclined to think "yes" to both but just a gut feeling. Below is a scan of a postcard I bought as a souvenir. They also have a t-shirt with the same design, which I regret not buying...my reason for a return visit! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Should be a KBE. He won the world championships in cars and bikes. I think the reason they haven't knighted him is because he did so for Italian manufacturers.
