I recently had my 308 transported to another state. It appears that someone took a short joy ride in the car (only five miles). Whomever it was broke the passenger side door handle (outside, just flops free), inside doesn't want to work, but does with some effort. I'm concerned about what might have happened mechanically to a cold 308 in five short miles. Any opinions or suggestions on things to have checked? I took a short drive, and the car seems alright, but I'm no expert. I just listened for odd noises, and watched for smoking.

    Any thoughts?

Sounds like they broke the cable between the outside handle & the lock. Happens with an old cable when you give the latch handle a good yank with the door locked.

Usually an easy fix with a piece of 1/16" ss cable from a hw store, & a little work.

Probably also bent the little sheet metal arm the cable attaches to. Again not hard to bend back into shape. This could also account for the inside latch not working. Could be something broken tho. In any case, you've got to pull the inside door panel to replace the cable.

If things like looking for body & upholstry damage, not running right, & no smoke look ok, its probably all right.

You could have a leakdown test done, but unless you had results from a recent one it'll be hard to make a case that any problem wasn't pre-existing.
