When JPM left Cart for F1 (almost) everyone including himself, mentioned JPM as the one to replace Schumi as #1. Since then, has he really been a threat to MS/Ferrari? He has his moments but IHO, until he get control of his temper and realise that he is part of a team I don't think he will be in the top three at the en of any season. // Peter
Please not another bash JPM poll and thread!! Don't you guys ever get sick of this? I'm a JPM fan for a number of reasons (just as I am a Jensen Button/Jarno Trulli/Eddie Jordan/Ferrari fan) and I'll admit JPM has his faults but surely he doesn't anything to warrant the approbation he gets on this board. We have hashed and rehashed his failings... Considering he's driving his last season for a team that is literally falling apart he's doing pretty darn well this season. Unlike his teammate who appears to have totally given up (and who is making one heck of a lot more money).
Ralf Schumacher is a 100 times better driver than Montoya. If montoya would quit crashing into Ralf, Ralf would have more points. Montoya is a piece of crap low life of F1 that rambles his mouth and whines about never winning. Yet his driving abilities are minimal at best and self control is non existant. He will never be a world champion. This year he is ruining a competitive team like BMW. Next year when he joins McLaren he will ruin their come back season when they may actually have a better car than this year.
again Montoya......oh no, I'm not a fan, for a number of reasons, and i don't like those polls anymore too, sorry. My answer on the poll, like most people on this chat, .......
I have never liked Montoya. I followed him from his F3000 days to CART and then on to F1. What really turned me against him were his comments about MS and how he would beat MS and so on and so, BEFORE HE WAS EVEN IN F1 (he started ranting about beating MS halfway through his last CART season). In addition he has a severe attitude problem on the track which causes him to make risky and sometimes bad decisions. That being said for you to say his driving abilities are minimal and RS is 100 times better is just plain stupid and ignores his stats. And this comes from someone who was once a big RS fan...................RS is only fast and wins races when the car is damn near perfect, when the car isn't he's average. Saying Montoya, a racer who has won an F3000 title (and scored a record 65 points), a CART championship (7 poles and 7 wins, youngest ever CART champion), the Indy 500, and had 7 pole positions against MS during the 2002 season where the Ferrari's were unstoppable. Against Ralph, JPM scored more points in each of the past two seasons and finished higher in the Championship tables. Head to head Ralph has more wins, but JPM has more points by a far margin and more poles (almost double). Last season he scored 82 points vs. Ralphs 48. Only in his first year did Ralph come out on top 31 vs. 49 points. Sorry to say, but Ralph is not even close to being 100 times better. Ralph, much like JPM will never be a world champion, both are cry babies, both whine all the time, and both are always focusing on the money and not winning. I have never liked JPM but to say he has minimal driving talent ignores the facts. He has incredible car control and can be very fast. Regards, Jon P. Kofod www.flatoutracing.net
"This year he is ruining a competitive team like BMW." Puh-leez. Enough is enough. I have long been a Williams fan but they are hardly a competitive team this year. Their car is slow and ugly and handles poorly relative to the competiton. Their own technical director admits the car is not competitive and has been replaced by a younger charge. BOTH of their drivers are gone as of next year- due in large part to Frank's legendary parsimony. The Michelin's aren't cutting it either. It cannot be a very happy place to work. You want to blame JPM for all of this? You are either incredibly stupid or your hatred of JPM blinds you to simple reason. It takes more than one individual to make or break a team. Even that legendary big mouth (and JPM is nowhere near his league) Eddie Irvine couldn't stop Ferrari or MS from being successful. Uncle Frank (ask me my last name) has not learned (unlike Mssrs. Schumacher, Todt, Montezemolo etc.) that is takes time, proper investment and the right people before a "team" can gel and become successful. JPM has never given up fighting for position or points even if he has made some dumbass moves. Hate him all you want but he can drive your, Ralf's and my pants off all day long. And at least he, unlike his teammate, actually attempts to pass MS- and has even done so on a few occasions. BTW I never recall JPM actually saying he would become a world champion. Even when he was coming close. Did he ever actually say this and if so when and where? Could someone provide a quote with the date?
The only good thing i can say about JPM is that he made me some money. Other than that he is a POS that should be smashing fenders in at a NECKCAR race near you. The way i made money with him was i made a bet with a co-worker when he said JPM would not score a single point his first year in F1!!!! I will take that $100.00 now
I *really* haven't got anything against JPM personally, but I generally dislike people who keep bragging about how good they are without being able to back it up with results. And then the whining... It's never his fault, it's the engine, his teammate... // Peter
Yep, another JPM bashing thread by ignorant prejudical couch potatos. Let's go to the facts again, putting his personal attitudes aside, JPM has the third most driver's points in the past three years (01,02,03) combine, behind MS and RB. So for the guys claiming so and so is ten times the better driver, show me the data to back up your baseless statements. And for the other critics who scream that JPM has no talent, it's easy to monday quarterback from the front of your tv, but you have no freaking idea the level of talent required to get to the his level of accomplishment. What have you done lately? I love going to court with these open and shut cases, the judge can never disregard the facts. And for all the other blind critics claiming so and so can do so much better in that team's car. Winning has as much to do with driving skills as fielding a competitive car. To know which team are fielding competitive cars is very very easy. Just look at the qualifiy time of the two team members. If only one does exceptionally well it may be a fluke, but if both drivers did well then it's the cars. Look at the recent races, Ferrari, BAR and Renualt were in the front, that tells you they have the right set-up, and it has nothing to do with Alonso being a faster driver than JPM. On the contrary, look at Mclaren and BMW this season, they have not been qualify well, and it surely has nothing to do with the driving abilities of JPM, RS, DC, KR, it's the car. The only time you can blame the driver is if his teamate consistently qualifies many places ahead of him, similiar to what JPM has done against RS in the past two years, that means JPM is a better driver and better at tailoring his car to reap the best times, same as comparing MS to RB These are statistical facts and not opinions coming out of your ass.
I'm open to a wager in real dollars that next season JPM will finish higher in driver points against any driver you pick (outside of the ferrari drivers) I willing to put my money where my mouth is....
One more point, do you guys truly think that all of a sudden Alonso, Trulli, Button and Sato have turned into great drivers and at the same time DC, RS, KR and JPM forgot how to drive? Get real! Try explaining Sato's performance in the past two races, it's the car!
