So a dealership is no longer regarded as a specialist Says a lot about the stamping of logbooks. I’ll have that discussion if I ever sell mine lol.. hope it works out though
The reality is that the majority of the cars that come into the dealers for service are mostly the new modern cars. Their ability to provide service on a Boxer will be dependent upon the mix of technicians that are on staff. I would assume that this mix varies widely from dealer to dealer. Many Ferrari owners that I know won’t own one outside of the included service/warranty period as they don’t want to pay for the potential big service bills. The dealers are then staffed accordingly.
It would be wise to seek an independent tech that has cut their teeth being (preferably) factory trained and with years, actually decades now, of experience working on classic f-cars. I am lucky enough to have two in my area. Their problem is they are so swamped with work and they cannot find decent techs that have the patience and want to get their hands dirty to help lessen their workload.
You guys are too generous. The older cars are WAY easier to work on. A solid grasp of the fundamentals is needed - that is 80% or so of ‘all you need’. Sadly, these days it is often missing. If the computer screen does not specifically say ‘remove and replace part xyz’, these new techs are totally lost. Put some fuel treatment in it…. ROTFLMAO
So the car went off to Italia Autosports - a very well respected specialist in the UK who diagnosed fouled metering heads. Due to have the car delivered back to me any day but they say the issue is sorted. Will update once it arrives.
Italia stripped down the metering heads and fully cleaned them then re-setup everything etc. They’ve done a wonderful job. Car is fantastic now. They also went over a few other things that needed sorting. Very pleased. Car now drives perfectly.
