OK, this happened on my Alfa, but should apply to Ferrari as well. I had to jump start my alfa today, because the light on the sunvisor was inadvertantly left on, and the car sat for a few days while I was away. I hooked up the cables to my other car (Saab 9-3), let the sab run for about 5 minutes, and started up the alfa. I then disconnected the cables, and took the alfa out for about 1/2 hour run to let the alternator charge the battery some more. Questions 1) Is this enough time? Should I have left the cables connected for a longer period of time before starting the Alfa? 2) Should I have run the car longer to ensure that the battery is fully charged. 3) Is there a better way to do this? Discuss. Thanks, Dom
If you have a bunch of cars, just to make life easier on yourself go buy a real battery charger. Thats the best way.
Yeah, I know, I know. It's on my list of things to get one of these days... But, in the absence of one, am I on the right track? Dom
Your procedure sounds ok to me. I have been told that it is a good idea to turn the lights on of the car that is giving the jump. This way power surges will be absorbed by the lighting system. I have no proof of this but it sounds reasonable enough.
