as i read the 911 model type post it occurred to me that the original 356 porsche was no slouch either..as i recall; all porsches had the name "porsche" front and back.[ the numbers "356" never appear on the car...] the porsche crest appeared on the hood handle and the horn button... additionally there was the model designation placed on the back of the car under the "porsche" ..they include the following;.

    1100
    1300
    1300 super
    1500
    1500 super...the above were aluminum
    those below were gold...
    1500
    1500 super
    1500 carrera
    1500 carrera gs
    1500 carrera gt
    1600
    1600 super
    1600 carrera gt
    1600 super 90
    1600 60
    c
    sc
    super 90 gt
    carrera 2 gs
    + a few i can' recall.. however..
on the side of the front fender ..
    speedster
    continental
    carrera
spyder [i will include this in the 356 era]
    also..
carrera gtl [abarth conversion of 356 b
904 gts started with a 4 cyl 4 cam so i will include it as well.
also at least 5 bodybuilder plates were on the front side panels.

and all this stuff was on one model from 1950- 1964...maybe the 911 series isn't so bad after all...

In addition, you could have (if you were wealthy...) Speedster and Carrera both appearing on the fender.

And 'Sportomatic' 911s had that designation on the rear deck, at least for a few years.

IIRC, the crest came along around the time of the 356A, so they ran the Porsche name on the nose in tandem until people started to recognize the crest.

i had a '52 coupe with the small narrow hood handle with no crest..but i have seen 1954+ [pre-a] with the bigger handle and crest..my current '56 has the handle w/crest.

The "Porsche" script on the front of the cars went away during the 1960 model year. The exact time varied with the body builder.

While not as clear, this factory ad is a bit more charming display of the script.
