Ok so far I have fully charged the battery and all electrics work as do the lights. So let's start the beast for the first time in 2 months (weather has been bad here in OZ) Turn the ignition and just got a click! I repeated this several times with the same result. I checked and swapped the relays, checked fuel, tried pimping the gas peddle, tried it in neutral and also with the clutch pushed in. Click is all I get! So I wonder if it's the starter motor or fuel Pump. Can any one help out on how to start her up? Thanks again
So is your car a Mondial 1985 qv or an 86 3.2 but it can not be both? coupe or cabrio ? Check and verify starter motor, spark, and fuel. Sounds to me like your starter is not working properly or not grounded. I think we need Steve Magnusson to help you trouble shoot.
. The clicking sound is from the relay. That means you have electricity to the relay, and the relay is working. The problem is somewhere beyond the relay. Please do not pump the gas pedal... You don't want to flood your engine; the engine hasn't turnover yet, so the problem is not fuel related. You can check your starter first: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpPOcO6f798
Are you sure your battery is fully charged? I had the same issue/symptoms last year and eventually discovered that although the battery was well enough to make windows and lights go up and down, it didn't have the juice to turn the starter motor (which apparently on a Mondial, needs a lot of juice). However long I charged it, my old battery was no longer able to be fully charged. I'm humbled by the technical knowledge on this site and am as un-technical as you can find, but sometimes, as per my experience, the answer can be a little more basic.
Like mondi88 I am not technically minded! So where can u find the starter motor and Soucorp it's a qv cab top. I figured I would check the starter motor and connections then hit it with a hammer! If it turns out to be the starter then I will replace it.
... that pedal only opens the throttle... as far as I know. No gas will enter the engine as long as it is not turning.
1) how old is your battery? if it is near end of life you may not have cranking amps, but still enough for basic electrical 2) have it tested and see if it will take charge any car parts place can test once its removed 3) if it was just low then charge it report back ps I know this cause this just happened on my benz, electricals worked but no cell life left to crank this is the "kiss" method keep it simple stupid to solve problems
Except the starter motor, right? When you turn on the ignition, you will get a click from the fusebox - the relay that puts certain systems under power, such as the ignition system. When you go to the spring loaded key position, you feed power the starter motor solenoid. Is that the click you hear, from the engine bay? If it is, your starter motor solenoid is working, but your battery is too weak to actually turn the engine. Try with a new battery or jumper cables before getting into changing the starter motor... there is a notable price difference between the two options. PS: Depressed clutch is a good idea as it isolated the dropgearbox from the starting drag.
Ok you know what, I will buy a new battery to see what happens as this is the lease expensive option. ( but surly I'd the battery is only 12 years old it should be ok. I remember when things were made to last!! Lol)
Put a volt meter on it, should read over 12v, with car running check again for over 14v to know your alternator is proper. My bet is on a bad battery from the sound of things you are describing! Best
Battery 12 years old!! Bloody hell it's probably shagged ha ha. Seriously as others have said measure battery voltage as you attempt to start and after. But with a 12 year old battery I'd just get a new one anyway, I'll be doing a little post later to explain why.... ......oh ok we just had Cavello crap out on us at the weekend, his battery is 8 years old!
Holy Crap 12 year old battery......yes sir that's an issue highest rating is 72 months that I know of and that's iffy
My last one was 7 years old. I guess regular use and no sub-zero starts helps. It failed "instantly" when it did.
Try this : take a screwdriver and connect the big plus on the starter with the little connector on that starter....when starting solenoid is good and you have a bad connection between key lock and starter. Then you have to follow the wires and connectors between those 2.... There is a big round one just under the clutch housing..and you have to look for the fine white wire. Guido

SORTED I replaced the battery with a new one - the transfer process is quite easy. Turned the key and varoooooooom! Music to my ears, until it seemed to stall. But that is my next post lol Thanks to the F geeks who helped out so far
