I went to C&C yesterday. Saw the LaF and Enzo. Those cars have (to me) pretty awesome engine. Got me thinking about Ferrari's supercars and Ferrari's entry level cars.

288 GTO debuted in 1984. It has 395 hp V8TT
10 years later, a V8 F355 has almost equivalent amount of power (375)

    F50 debuted 1995. It has 510 hp V12
10 years later, a V8 F430 has almost equivalent amount of power (490)

Enzo debuted in 2004. It has 660 hp V12
11 years later, a V8 488 has exactly equivalent amount of power (660)

LaF debuted in 2015. It has 950 hp V12+emotor.
so if the trend holds*, in 2025, the "V8" F(###) will have around 950 hp.

Kind of mind blowing to think that in 10 years, a baby Ferrari will have nearly 1000hp. and its CS/Scud/Speciale/whatever will be even more powerful.

*given that Mustangs Cobras, Hellcats, Z06s, Vipers, 911TTs, AMGs, M3,4,5,6s are equipped with ever more powerful engines, Ferrari has to meet the HP challenge.

Of course your numbers are spot on, so your conclusion is reasoned and supported, but I dont think we'll ever see the baby Ferrari putting down the horsepower numbers of LaF.

IMO, we've already hit a point of diminishing returns. The current power levels are nearly unusable on the street where 99% of Ferraris live (assuming they're even driven at all). More and more power doesn't necessarily enhance the experience. I think (hope), weight and grip are where future cars will really make their gains.

There's more fun in driving a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

    Really?

Speed in and of itself gets boring. Taking a sixty MPH curve at sixty one is more exciting than cruising at two hundred.

There's more driving to be done in a car that approaches its limits in real world situations than one that can never be driven in extremis.

But whatever makes you happiest is the best car for you. Chacun son gout.

Why does the 488 needs more power than the 458. For that matter does the 458 needs more power than the 430, whose power is more than twice enough for street driving.
it's an arms race. Ferrari will not get any "respect" if an M3 out muscle it. Doesn't matter if 99.9% of the time, the power will not get used.
I think we will see HP of entry level Ferrari reaching 1000 10 years from now.

I'm gonna bet that driving an F458 Speciale is more fun than driving a 458.
A GT4 is more fun than a regular base Cayman.
GT3RS is more fun than base 911.

In the end they're a little frustrating. A lot of potential but limited opportunities to excerise it.
    Until you're at 8/10s you're still a bit of a passenger.

I have never driven a regular 360 but I enjoy the 360CS tremendously. Can't really say if the 360 will be a better driving experience. From what I've read though, the CS is more fun.
Back to topic, the HP war will continue to escalate the engine output. If lesser cars have more power than Ferrari's. People will talk and the mystique will be diminished. I don't think Ferrari will allow this.

Resurrecting an old thread. Recently reading about the 296 GTB reminded me of this thread.
7 years later, a "baby Ferrari" is putting down 800+ horsepower. Albeit, this car is a little pricier than an F8 and an add on, not a replacement.
    In three years, I think a F8 equivalent/replacement will be at 900-950hp.

For better or for worse, I don't believe it'll be a purely V8 engine. It'll be a turbo & e-motor of some sort.

*The SF90 already surpassed the LaFerrari in power output but that car isn't a F8Tributo replacement. It's much pricier.
