Hi fellow ferrari owners & lovers, im just back from a 5 week holiday in Italy. I was lucky enough to have been invited to take a tour inside the Ferrari factory over 2 days. Special thanks to Tony Graziani of Ferrari Sydney that made it possible.
This tour is a must for any Ferrari owner and it turned out to be more than I could have expected. We were fortunate to see the complete assembly line from casting to painting. The added bonus was watching them build 3 FXX in front of our eyes with the mechanics for these gems in total different uniforms to the standard Ferrari workers.
Only place off limit was the wind tunnel. As our guide told us NO ONE goes inside. We watched 2 F430 doing track time at Fiorano track this was then taken over by the Miny Cooper S club of UK which had a real fun day as many as 70 ++ vintage & new Minis tore up the track. I managed to see a new model in on the backlot doing a test run, cant say what it was as it was all blacked out with masking tape as it blurred passed us but looked like a replacement for the 550. Only part that sucked was no cameras inside, I did take lots of pics outside and in the museum, was given lots of promo goodies to take home plus a Ferrari passport for the next trip over. Any ????? feel free to ask.

When Kelly and I did the tour in 1998 we were hosted round by a Engineering Student from the University of Modena (from memory) who basically had a script to follow. They used students so that they could control what information was given out. Ditto no photos, but it was interesting all the same, but slightly 'antiseptic' in that you couldn't touch, stay between the yellow lines etc etc. Sounds like they have spiced it up a bit.

Also did a tour around the Lotus factory on the same trip, which was much more interesting as it was done by the Sales Director and you could get much more 'up close' to things. After seeing the top half of an Esprit being flopped out of the mould I would be nervous about ever getting into one!

I'll be in Italy (florence in particular) at the end of this month. Any particular suggestions for this tour.... is it hard to hook up a thorough factory tour without an internal link or phonecall from an Aus-based ferrari dealership?

On a side note: I'm also curious about Pagani and Lambo factory tours..

    Cheers.

You have no luck as they are closed till March 1 2006 dur to the F1 testing, also you need a letter from a Ferrari dealer here in OZ requesting Ferrari to allow you to do the tour. Try the Ducati factory there a little easier to vist

Don't think that a letter or pre-arranged tour at this end makes any difference. In 1994, I had just that, owned several cars and when I got to the gate the DH behind the desk didn't give a sh*t. Just didn't want to know about it no matter what. Fortunately I had just done the Pilota course at Mugello with a whole bunch of Americans and they just so happened to turn up at the same time as us. We joined the US group and got to do the tour. If we hadn't run into them, we wouldn't have got the tour, despite all the arrangements at the Australian end. It may be different today; but maybe not!!

I was even luckier, arrived at Maranello in '89 with nyet, thinking you could just rock in (doh!) was asked if I had the letter from my dealer ??!!, uh oh, then an American couple had hired a young Italian girl to act as their guide turned to me and said to tag along with her :)

Saw most of the factory when they were still making F40s and Testarossas were everywhere (a big backlog from memory was happening).

Albereto's F1 car and a 625 (I think) were in the foyer at the time and the workers were wearing blue overalls.

Money, it's a hit don't give me that goodi good bull ****.....yes very pink floyed..... just loved that band! Too many fine bergundies tonight so you'll have to forgive the political incorrectness. You're right John, those western freulines (pardon the spelling) much hotter that their eastern counterparts.

****, hope I haven't done a Goober, might get banned and and face solitude with my beema beast! Then again, I know Scud is ****ting himself for when we meet on the Stuart hwy :)

Off to bed now, night folks. My prayer....please don't let me be banned for such blasphemy.

Geez! You'd think I could spell floyd and burgundy. Ah, the pleasures of plonk!
As penance for my poor spelling, here's a poem for yas.

    I woke early one morning,
The earth lay cool and still
    When suddenly a tiny bird
    Perched on my window sill,
He sang a song so lovely
    So carefree and so gay,
    That slowly all my troubles
    Began to slip away.
He sang of far off places
    Of laughter and of fun,
    It seemed his very trilling,
    Brought up the morning sun.
    I stirred beneath the covers
    Crept slowly out of bed,
    Then gently shut the window
    And crushed his f*cking head.
I'm not a morning person. (not today anyway)
