Uh oh, I had an accident! Despite all of my reservations, I couldn't help myself and bought this driver! Very excited as I've never even seen a GT4 live before, much less driven one, but how could I not like it? Worse comes to worst, I could just look at it :). Now have to get it from Berkeley, CA to NYC. Does anyone have an opinion about open vs enclosed transport? This car is a driver and I don't want to be precious about it - I already have too many precious cars! I'm also holding an auction on uShip.com - anyone ever used it? One thing that convinced me on the 308s vs. the 360 or 550's - the 308 forum is the most fun! Really want to work on it vs. just detail it - haha!

Welcome Kathryn. Congratulations on your purchase and many sweet miles with smiles. I have watched a TV show where real amateur shippers bid on shipments and usually (blank) them up. I would err on the side of caution and at a minimum open air with a reputable company. Have any books, tool kits etc shipped via Fed Ex or UPS before hand as all shippers do not guarantee the contents of the cars they ship. I lost a stereo once while shipping a Jeep to New Mexico that's how I learned my lesson.

Congrats on the new sweet ride. If you are like me, the GT4 is love at first site, then it gets better from there. I used Uship to get my car from Colorado. You have to be careful and not get a broker, but find a shipper with his own enclosed rig. Once you get to the point where you can communicate directly with the shipper, you can find out if he is a goob or for real. Make sure he has insurance. It worked out well for me.

Congratulations Kathryn and welcome. As far as the transport, I feel it should be enclosed. When I shipped my car from Nevada to Ohio I did not have the greatest experience so don't be surprised if it doesn't go exactly the way they tell you. As long as it gets there and they don't damage the car, that's what's important.
It looks like a beautiful car!

Thanks for the advice. The car originally came from Japan and those shippers already took the spare and tools! I bought the car from a Lancia guy in NorCal who is a mechanic, so he has the air filter housing! haha! He loves carbs, so he rebuilt them and wanted to show them. I saved the timing belt change for myself! :) I'm starting to chicken out on uShip and have just emailed Intercity - hopefully being an F-chatter gets me a good rate! Not sure I have the balls to drive it across the country, although I did think about it ...

308GT4s are, in my opinion- really the most fun Ferraris on the road. 75's especially! Great sound, great torque, "slot-car-on-rails" handling.

Enclosed shipping from the West Coast to the East Coast- this time of year- will be in the $1500-$1800 range. Open will be around $1100-$1300.

ALL of the truckers on Uship are sort of the same- Russian drivers packing their trucks full and bombing across the country once a week. They're usually reliable but your car will ALWAYS be delivered filthy, sometimes covered in the oil and rust from the car above it on the transporter. Spend the extra $500 and let Intercity or Reliable truck it.

Congratulations! Looks like a pretty nice example. As for shipping, there was a thread on here last week..... Plycar was the Fog Rally sponsor, others recommended Horseless Carriage, and a few more...
    Enjoy!

Congrats! I love the Bertone styling of the GT4. It sounds great too!

I've used Reliable Carriers many many times for some very expensive cars - they did a great job, even though their rigs weren't new and shiny like some of the other carriers I've seen. Their rates seem reasonable, but you may wait a little while before they get enough vehicles to move (the enclosed hauler won't be empty).

Jay - thank you for the vivid description of the uShip trucker! Am getting on Reliable right now for another quote! Will try Plycar as well. I hesitate to say this as there are many on F-chat who are non owners like I used to be, but it's fun to actually have an F-car to chat about! I might not be saying that once the bills start to pile up - that's the upside of non F-car ownership - no bills! ;)

Welcome to GT4 ownership. I've had mine for 28 years. Still love her.
I recently sold my Mondial 3.2, the purchaser hired Interstate to ship her to him. For over 4 week they saying pickupp next week. He finally went with Exotic Cars of Orlando, they picked up the car within 5 day. just a heads up.

Best of luck to you with your new toy.

Check out Golden Key Express...they only offer open transport but they own their trucks. I have used them to ship a TR6, two Porsche 914's, Jeep CJ7 and a Mondial. All arrived on time and in great condition. No financial interest...just making a recommendation based on a great experience.

Have you watched the national weather scene? Open shipping damage could easily cost the price of closed shipping.
there are several excellent closed shippers on fchat as sponsors. Use them. Jq.

Your car looks great, you are going to enjoy it!
Interesting it came from Japan but is left hand drive, with a mirror on the right? Possibly imported there at some point in it's life...

Another vote for Plycar, they shipped a 328 for me this Summer on short notice after another of the major shippers dropped the ball. I can't recommend them highly enough.

Looks nice. The styling often grows on me depending on the angle.

Shipping is gonna be $$$. Check with local exotic dealers big and small in the area. They will know the best shipping company to get it to nyc.
