Anybody know how many 348's there are in the DFW metroplex? Have not seen nor heard of many. Had to go out of state to find mine. Beautiful, very nice vehicle and the maintenance is impeccable with records. [15,300 miles] I like it!! See you guys around the DFW metroplex campus.

Congrats on your 348 & welcome to Ferrarichat. If you have pics, post em up.

As of the headcount of 348's in DFW, I only know of 5 including a challenge car.

Does TT mean twin turbo? If so, did it come from the east?

348s -- Jano, Dan, Ric, Mark come to mind, also know that there's another yellow 348 challenge that showed up at the ItalCarFest last year but don't know where it's from. Surely there's more in the MetroMess

Welcome, Al fwd me your email for the FCA club. I responded.

Maybe 10 or so 348's active in our club. With 200-400 Ferraris around DFW, I bet 30-50 are 348's.

Don Payne also has a red one.

The best I can remember, I knew of about 10 when I was with FoDallas...

Yes, does the TT mean twin turbo??? If so, who did the work? (Norwoods, I would assume)

Duh, boy did I blow that one. I sold him the 348 after I helped him find a buyer for his 328 GTS. I took his 348 on trade when the bought the 355 from me............red faced am I.........

Ask Don how bad the top leaked on the 348.

    Rexman,

Make sure you have good seals on the top. The car looks good..... I hope you really enjoy it.....

There were 2 (either last year or the year before), I already listed Mark :D I remember because we were commenting on the odds of two yellow challenge 348s showing up out of the small number built.

Great car. I sold my black ,94 348 spider a few years back, shipped it to Indy so its not in the metroplex anymore. You will enjoy it.

Hey, that was Richard Sherman's car you bought. Spoke to him about that car many times. First he wanted to sell it, then he didn't. Then he did again, etc., etc. Rivee on F-chat actually went and test drove the vehicle I believe, and then Richard got cold feet on selling it. I could be wrong on this.

Guess you caught him on a weak day! Looks great!

Great car. Plus Richard's inmaculate maintenance records were indeed impressive. I flew out to LAX early morning. The compression test and PBI was superb and the general condition and the low mileage sold me on it on the spot. Since all the maintenance specs were up to the world class levels, I did not test drive it for I had a some surgery that precluded me actuacting the clutch very well and I did not want to ding it accidentally, lest Richard have a heart attack on the spot and he is a very nice fellow. I figured I drives just like the 308 I had some years ago except better, being a more powerful machine will make it that much more fun to drive. If there are any idosyncrasies to it that you can pass on, in addition to the great briefings I had from RDS I will appreciate it.

    Rex...

I too was impressed with Richard's car. I almost bought it. But when I was looking (Feb 04), he didn't have the 30K service done, and the car was over-priced to me considering that. Then he called me and said "Hey...I've got the 30K service done" But by then, I bought another one in L.A., from Beverly Hills Classic Cars. I'll post a pic later. Mine is getting ready to turn 40K miles and I've really enjoyed it. You should have good luck with Richard's car. I kind of like the chrome wheels, too. Kind of different. I did buy a set of 355 wheels and auctioned off my 348 wheels on ebay. The difference was approx. $1000 and was well worth it.

BTW, I'm up in Amarillo. That 348 will drive nothing like your 308. It will seem like a rocket ship. And the sound is unbelievable. Enjoy it.

    Lets see:

You may have to skip 2nd gear and go straight to 3rd when the car is cold.

Make sure you warm up the motor before violating it.

Kenny Bernstein style drag racing starts are not recommended but Norwood will re-clutch your car as often as you would like.

My 348 was a good experience all around. Repairs, resale and of course driving it.

    Enjoy.

    Hi Husker:
Thanks for the feed back. However, Richard'a car has only 15,300 certifiable miles miles on it.
He just put about 10g's of maintenance with all verifiable records and I like I said earlier the engine checked out super. I assume that is what you mean by the 30k required maintenance. All the maileage in his car checked out with the CA DMV since he bought the vehicle in 1996.
BR, thanks for the tips. Definitely a warm engine for anything.
I plan to drive the hell out of it except I will probably end up going always on third gear at 70 mph. Hell If I can not do 575 knots then doing 100+ is not on my program except to enjoy the beast. I do want to know what you all think about the front end black lower spoiler that sits really low and in variable degrees of up slope and down slope it can drag and scrape it a bit. Is there any mod to get the the front spoiler clearance reduced or can I install a shorter one if there is such a mod to prevent spoiler scraping. I am going to guess that it is one of those things that the Italians did not think about and I will have to live with the scrapes. Looking forward to meet all of you in the not too distant future. Thanks again for all the info.

Welcome to Ferrari ownership! You'll scrape the spoiler more in the first 2 weeks than you will in the next 2 years, but there is no escape. Even on our 328's, many of us either need our spoilers redone, or have already had them redone. It's part of the price of admission. You'll quickly learn to take every driveway at an angle.

    Rexman...

I'll second what Jimpo said about the spoiler. You will learn very quickly to enter driveways at a severe angle. But plan on cracking (and consequently repairing) your spoiler once a year. I normally crack mine during the course of spring/summer driving, then wait until winter to send it in to the body shop to get repaired.

One thing you might consider is PAINTING all of the black trim on your car. It's a great update to the 348 if you like the look. Makes the car look 20 years younger. The 355 wheel upgrade looks decent too. Here's a pic of mine, after these updates:

    Hi guys:
My report on my 348 TS bought in Santa Monica a couple of three weeks weeks ago.[typing error when I reported TT]
What a fabulous machine!! Richard's inmaculate maintenance paid off and the
vehicle is indeed awesome. Thoroughly checked out at Norwood. Have already driven it nearly 500+ miles from the west side of airport east and west on LBJ and up and down the Tollway many times shaking it down. I bought it to drive the hell out of it!! What a great machine. I forgot who said the sound of this engine is indeed beautiful. Right on the money. I was under an underpass entering the tollway at LBJ going North around 5-6000 rpm accelerating and the noise was magnificent echoing off the concrete. If anyone has flown an aircraft with afterburners, and then a 348, I think you would have to agree this is the closest thing to having afterburners on the ground. The same feel when putting on the smash.
Someone also stated this vehicle would be superior to my old 308 and they were right on the money. No comparison. I was going to buy a 328 but I am glad I went with the 348. You all were correct and I appreciated your comments.

The handling of this car is also really surprising to me. Superior to what I was expecting since it had been a few years since I strapped one on.
Final note. I was going up the ramp at Glade Road and 121 going North in the direction of the DFW airport and as i approached the top of the ramp
at 70+, I could not believe there was a Testarossa on the lane adjacent to me going North. Seemed like a nice fellow just out for a nice drive. Both of us had our kids in the right seat and drove down in formation for a while. The back end of the Testarossa reminded me of an Abrams M1A tank. God Bless Enzo!
He did not have a personalized plate and I could not write down his Texas plate. Anyone from Southlake or around this neck of the woods?
I look forward to meeting all of you in the near future.
I had forgotten what is like to strap one of these fabulous machines on!
How magnificently rejuvenating!! And I am still just a kid!!
The state approved my personalized plate and I think you all will enjoy it when it arrives.
    See you all around campus.

    ps
The guys at Norwood's have been terrific and most professional as well.

By the way you spotters. Saw some awesome Black Ferrari at the Grapevine Tinsel Town 17 movie house. I could not tell what it was but I guess maybe a Modena? I had parked way out in Centerfield and he had parked behind the building on a corner.
