Like almost everyone here have said, you're a lot more brave and gutsy than we are. Most of us would just walk away from a car that's been neglected by the previous owner.

But you got a great deal, you're doing most of the work yourself so you're saving a ton of repair money, you're learning a lot about the car and most of all, pride of workmanship, pride of ownership and bonding with your car.

    I bow to you!

    Dan

The "story" is replace the belts every three years.
Not sure if that means date of manufacture which makes sense.
A belt in a bag would degrade as much as a belt installed but never run.
Personally I'd ask for a refund and get newer belts even if the cost is a bit more.
The labor is the same either way.

As far as degrading: I think it's the heat cycles that the belts are exposed to in the engine bay that is the issue... and the eight thousand five hundred revolutions per minute that they can see. The cars have a racing heritage and can be used functionally on a race track, so it's understandable that the recommended belt replacement interval be "frequent". The car was designed to access the belts from the comfy carpeted space and a more intimate relationship with your car,not to mention less track time, may offer you some leeway with that interval.

The discussion is warranted though and we should all take note. In a PPI situation without any paperwork the mechanic might find this date and make an assumption that the belts are XX years old and that the car has not been serviced but the shelf time wasn't considered.

I just checked a set of belts that came off of my car in 2014 and they had a date of 2010 on them. So maybe they were in storage for 1 year prior to being installed. When I do the next major in about 7 months I will look at the belts and see the date. I am curious now!

I tried to follow the marks and it was off on mine for some reason. Good thing I checked TDC to make sure or else my engine would be bye-bye as soon as I started it.

TDC is the key and safest approach. Then make your new marks for future changes to make an easier lock and swap.

Yes it is hooked up to my secondary air pump so kicks on for a certain amount of time.my 360 is a euro so I guess mine didn't have the secondary air pump and was added.

So... are the Ferrari belt change interval overly worried about? Because it seems like there's quite a bit of room for how old and out of spec it is before the engine goes.

There are a few threads here about the belt intervals, someone I think went 7 years between changes?

Although Ferrari recommends to change them every 3 years, many here including my dealer, have stated that you could go as far as 5 years between changes and you should be fine. If the belts were manufactured in 2015, and you slip them on now and change them 3 years later, their lifetime will have been around 5 years.

I guess I'd be fine with that personally.

Possibly the most common Ferrari in the most common specification, maybe a VIN/Chassis number may help us to identify this car.

What was the cause of the drag in 1st gear? I didn't see the fix for it and was surprised to see stereo and gauges go k before getting it sorted
