Just bought a new civic hybrid. California is in the process of allowing some of the hybrids to use the High Occupancy Lane. Not only will it get 45mpg, but we'll save about 30 minutes, each way on the commute. White, with all the options, and leather (tan) interior. Delivery on Thursday. Has absolutely no HP.

    Congrats? LOL.

My cousin had an insight for about 3 years. Great cars, he was getting over 50mpg.

In the Bay area, the CNG civic is also very popular. Drove one of those, drives like a normal civic. :)

The HOV privelege alone would justify the purchase!

Are there still waiting lists for the hybrids? I think the Prius had them for a while...

Honda of Oakland had three on Saturday. Two sold that day. The one we bought and another one. We wanted the Accord hybrid, but it didn't meet the mileage requirement to use the HOV lane 45mpg.

Would the Prius qualify? I heard they are reasonably quick off the line.

What kind of milage does the RX330 Hybrid get?

The RX300 gets about 30 - 35 mpg. The Honda gets about 48, the Toyota around 50. Pick it up on Thursday.

Absolutely no HS - You posted on three separate topics you were already making phenomenal time on your commute.

As always, drive safe - in the meantime, enjoy the relatively glider-like silence on your commute.

Kids are back from school, there is a delay in the commute (its still not what it was in the past, but not a straight through drive either), but the increased gas mileage, and the ability to use the HOV lanes when I traveling during the day is great. 30 minutes a day isn't a bad thing, even though the car isn't exactly what I wanted.

Is the Accord Hybrid already available in CA ? I don't it has made it to the mid-south yet. I was a bit dissapointed with the Accord's mileage (34/38, or something like that), though I suppose the city mileage is actually great for a 270hp sedan.

    Andy:

The accord is just becoming available, but the law allowing the use of the HOV lanes requires 45mpg, which the Accord doesn't get. That's why we got the Civic. Used it yesterday on the commute: very quite, mileage looks to be almost as advertised.

Good for you Art, use in good health. I am surprised you didn't go with the Prius.

Yeah, I would have gone with the Prius. Save for the rather long waiting list.

I cant wait til they start putting hybrid tech into more mainstream vehicles.
