Well the wireless controller is one thing. The most important difference, IMO, is the hard drive, or lack there of with the core package. You'll have to either buy the hard drive for them as well, or go and buy a memory card. Otherwise you're kids won't be able to save their game progress. The core system comes with no saving device. I would suggest the hard drive, especially if they intend to make use of the Xbox online gaming.
