Does your State Require a Front License Plate ? More Importantly, Is it Enforced ? Nevada = Required but Not Enforced
Required here I believe. But I thought I heard/read someplace it was trying to be changed. I went to my first Ferrari get-to-gether a couple years ago. The Ferrari's were all parked in a row...mine was the only one with a front plate!!! "EEEGADS"!!! I thought...My Kingdom for a screw driver !!! taint there now...so far so good! (knock on wood) Cheers! DT _________________________________________________________________ There is nothing like a Ferrari, there never has been and never will be!
check for the link a little way down in this thread. It list the requirements state by state...http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=21442
In San Francisco, it is enforced subjectively by some meter maids. It's a $10 fine + a cop has to sign-off on the ticket stating the plate has now been mounted. I usually use some plastic rip-ties which I nip-off once the cop has signed-off.
Here it is enforced because of all the red light cameras in place. They can't legally send you a photo ticket if you dont have a frontal photo showing driver and plate. So I suppose if your a light runner, take your front plate off. A fix it ticket is much cheaper than a red light violation. P.S. I don't have a plate on the front of any of my cars 1199 usually excuses the ticket.
They require them here but depends on the county you live in. I have lived in Montana all my life and in my experiance it appears the local police departments are concerned more than the hiway patrol. I have driven Ferraris almost 20 years in the same county and have not been stopped once for not having the frt plate. But have been questioned about it in other areas of the state. This is a small community and you can bet they all know (and where I live too) who owns the red Italian job that runs around here so it seems they don't worry to much about me. HaHaHa Regards, Vern
down here in fl no front. i see a half dozen cars a day with no back tag either so i suppose the police aren't too concerned.
The other day I took the front License plate off my 308 GTB. I can't believe how great it looks........ like day and night. But sadly they enforce it here in Thailand. I don't think they will lift this front plate law for any reasons in the states, they don't need to... It helps the police more with than without.
New Jersey requires front plates, but if you have an older car registered as "historic" (over 25 years old), then no front plate is required. I have the Mondial registered as a collector car, exempt from inspection, but supposed to have the front plate. I've driven it around quite a bit without the front plate and never been bothered. I've heard of others with exotic cars who've been hassled over not having a front plate, but those are few and far between. Rule of thumb, you're okay unless you run into the wrong cop.
required in VA, but i think officers are more lenient when it comes to exotics over here. i haven't put one on, and also don't put on my county tax and inspection stickers. yeah, i'm a rebel john
NY requires it and I got a ticket for it, but the judge tossed it after I gave him a story. The PA thing is an issue for me as I see dozens of cars from PA a day on the NY roads during my commute. The whole idea of requiring it seems to be BS. What is it about? Does the car from NY without the front plate pose some type of danger to police, but the car from PA with none on NY roads does not. I just do not get it. Nothing against you PA boys.
Texas requires the front plates, but for the last 20 years I haven't had one on my daily or weekend drivers, without any tickets. Did get a warning ticket for speeding on some hill country back roads and he mentioned the plate, but that was it. It hurts the look of so many cars. Some of our local f/chat members have devised some easily removable front plate braclets.
Southern California - they are required, but rarely enforced. The only time I ever got a ticket for it was when I had a parking meter violation, and they wrote up the front plate along with the parking violation (this has happened twice to me). However, I've never been pulled over for a front plate violation in any of my sports cars in the 20 years I've been driving them in So. Cal.
Yeah, I-908, didn't get nearly enough signatures to make it to the ballot... not to mention my idiot friends all signed it multiple times...
Califeloney The front plate law in Vehicle Code has always been there since the early 60's late 50's. The violation is only marked as an infraction, but up until the red light camera's started popping up, nobody really cared. I have never experienced a groups of cops so anal about your front plate as those with 'revenue' cameras in their beat.
Agree with 1Turbo that it is required in Nevada, but I see plenty of cars in Reno without a front license, and someone at the DMV in Reno told me that a cop, if he/she chose to enforce this, that they would likely give you a warning for the first "offense". I usually carry my second plate with me (in the trunk) so I could demonstrate that at least I have one.
MD --required--yes it is enforced---just not by me!!! I figure I don't have one on my Fcar--why would I mess with someone w/o it.
