i travel alot between the coasts and my cars are dreadfully neglected. i did manage to get out in my bbi today and just returned from my ride. the car must be one of the coolest cars ever created! sure there are faster but few that do it in such style save the daytona and muira!! my boxer has been very, very expensive to keep on the road in my 5 years of ownership but when it's running well, it even seems cheap! i bet i will still love this car as i do today when i'm a 100 yrs! they are really special machines and really the last of their kind. just wanted to share my smile w/ you all. best, pcb
2 months is a looong time! I go through convulsions after 2 weeks. I get excited just turning the key in the ignition
Peter agree with you 100% about the boxer, its a class act, but why has your car been so expensive to maintain, and what do you consider expensive? steve
Peter, you sure put a smile on my face! Got my boxer on June 17th, then went back to sea on July 5th. I'll be home around the 10th or so next month, and can't wait to drive that car again! Maybe I'll catch you at Starbucks some Sunday morning.
steve, i have done a clutch, main shaft (broke it!), major (while the engine was out), cv boots, all hoses including all radiator hoses, oil lines , fuel lines, jet hot exhaust system, konis...more. i still need to do my rear pads and rotors. so far a little under $20k...ouch!
Enjoy the time you have with any Fcar. I work/live in Argentina and only come back to the San Diego area 2x per year for a short visit. My 365 GTC4 sits unused until we are stateside, and then gets used every day for about 2 weeks. Yes it´s a hassle to fix the few things that went south since the last visit. But life is (partially) composed of memories, and those of a blast down the country roads outside San Diego are precious. Maybe I´ll meet you and JTR next time we are in town (early November).
I have not had my bebe, since late February 05. - Major service. It is almost done. I hate to rush a mechanic. We had difficulty trying to rebuild the distributor. The springs, buckets, and weights are unobtainable. Let's do a Boxer group hug ! LOL. (Incredible car) - Also waiting on the silencer from Bell.
Yeah, here's a hug for all those poor Boxer's hanging out in garages collecting dust! Peter, How did the Main Shaft get broken? Doing burn-outs in the Starbucks parking lot? I should be home first part of Nov. It'd be a blast to take a run up through Owens / Lyons Valley road area with Mike's GTC4 and our Boxers! In fact, when I get home in a couple weeks, I'll volunteer to run up that way, burn a bunch of gas and put a lot of wear and tear on my car, and scout out a route. Yeah Baby! Smiling already at the thought!
I was out in my Boxer today and had to stop by the shop I've been using lately to pick up some stuff. They had a silver 512BB in there (only about 20 serial numbers from mine) which hadn't been started in 8 years! Needless to say, I felt good when I got into my Boxer and roared off!
What a shame. Is someone waiting for the late 80's market to return ? Another 10,000 mile Boxer needs to be preserved ? It has not been started in eight years ? How many more years, is it going to sit ? - A waste.
ralph, i beg you not to let your car become a fixture in the shop she currently lies in. do remember that mine was in jail for 2 years!! stay on your tech so it does not become too long before you and your bebe are reunited!!! months can turn into years! btw...anyone know what to do w/ a bad bbi alternator? replace or rebuild? cost?? pcb
Pete The car is done. The engine was all apart / less the heads, crank, and pistons etc....... Everything is back in the car. It was a major service. The mechanic was the former head mechanic for FoH. He has all kinds of wild Ferraris in his shop. The problem was the distributor. How to properly rebuild the item, when you cannot obtain the factory spec pins, springs, mechanical weights, and buckets. I am sure you saw the two SOS posts, where I asked for any ideas on how to locate these items. A bad alt ? I assume it can be rebuilt ? Thanks Pete
good deal ralph...you obviously managed your project better than i! boy did i learn a lesson!! hey, please do keep me updated on the bell system as i may go that way too if it screams!! good luck w/ it ralph. pcb
I don't know why it sat for so long, but it was in the shop to get a major service and be put back in operation, so it won't be sitting much longer.
I am still waiting on the s/s silencer. Steveirl, and one of the Australian mechanics on F.C., claimed it was louder than the Tubi. As you know, it is only one can. + less dinero. Rk
Ralph's car will be out soon....Valeria is in the driveway, honking the horn for a clutch adjustment/replace! LOL! The distributors can be rebuilt, Trutland did mine, but took FOREVER and for awhile I thought I was going to have to buy them new!! I'd check Ferrari UK for the misc. small parts. You have to bench calibrate them, that's all. The calibration machine is getting hard to find, but they are "out there"....... 2 new units were on the shelf at FoA at the time, $800.00 each. Alternators are no big deal, a guy in the old part of Houston does mine for $70 bucks.....when I brush broke later, that was $12. He races 1/4 mile, but we swap stories, while he works.....smoke cigars......stuff like that.
Hey Speedy: They just bought the X-late Foyt, silver/black and bordeaux 512BBi. That is an awesome color combo. That car needs a complete and total service. This is another Box that sat to lonnnnnnnng. Are we still going to N.O., for November ? Hope all is well by then. I hope Cafe Dumond is still their !!!! I miss my Box !!!!! See you soon. P.S. I tried F/UK for those parts. - Nothing.
Well, being a UT Longhorn, that Texas A&M color scheme just didn't "do it" for me.......I'd have made it into Art Car #2, or something......LOL! Then AJ would have been mad at me! Rule #1 in Waller, TX is "Don't make AJ mad"....... Yea, we are getting our Sponsor Package together for my two 308GTBs..... Need some help there, but Goodyear and Royal Purple are on board, ANSA too! Have not seen any pics of Winsor Court, but the Trade Center Club was trashed, lost all the glass.......I'm on the thread in LA Section talking with every one......
It looks worse for the eastern burbs........Slidell is where Jim Spiro's shop was, IIRC.....and they are not even back in there yet, to find survivors.....water stiil too deep...... You don't mess with these storms.... Rule #1 in my hometown of Galveston is "Run! Run as fast as you CAN!" Some of the recent folks moving in did not have that historical memory.......
Yea, that was the routine with the p.o...... Tune up to run.....store two years..........Tune up to run...........store two more years... What was the MarKEt $$$$$, did you hear??? I'm back to gazing thru the window at Bobileff's......I'd go with a carb car, myself.......that's a nice daytona seat package in that one..... You promised me a drive......I won't forget!! LOL!
It is my pleasure to let you drive it. Michael Davis drove my x - SE 30. Yeah with a gurl under 25 reaching for something !!!!!!!!!!
