Maisto Ferrari F430 metal diecst "assemble it yourself" kits are on Target store shelves (at least her in Dallas---I saw 4 on the shelf at the Tollway & Park location in Plano; bought one for myself) for $13.00! Pretty nice looking except neither the rear engine lid, nor front hood, open up; doors only.

It's pretty cheesey for todays standards, but the wheels and tires are great.

I've seen 'em on the shelves as far back as late July here in CA in both red and yellow. I passed on 2 accounts:

    1) Maisto

    2) 1/24 scale

I really just need to focus on my 1:18 Fcar collection right now, and not open the door to more and more acquisitions (not that the 1/24 Fdiecast market is booming with product). Also, I'm really trying to up the overall *quality* of my collection with additions from Exoto, Kyosho, and Minichamps...thus, the afformentioned #1 reason I passed.

Bought one yesterday at Wal Mart here for $12CDN. First die cast F430 I have seen in a store. Already painted one set of wheels black...

Opps, my bad. The hood DOES open. I just built mine last night & have it here on my desk at the bank. Not really a bad model, but yeah, not as "nice" as some others; but not as chessy as some of the older Maistos.

It will do until I can get a 1:18th F430 without paying top dollar to someone on ebay that tries to hide their profit in the shipping costs....

(Am I the only one that gets P.O.'ed at this scam?)

Agreed that it will do until I can find a 1/18th HW. I also agree about the shipping costs on ebay. In fact I work with a guy who sells all kinds of things (junk?) on ebay and makes his money on the shipping.

I got my 1:18 from a guy on eBay in Hazard, KY. The "Buy It Now" was $21.99, and shipping to anywhere in the U.S. was $8, so I was "out the door" for under $30. I couldn't do that good at a local diecast shop (*IF* they even had the 430 in stock) if I tried... I can give you the guys eBay ID if you're interested. He had every other 430's Buy It Now beat by at least a dollar, sometimes more, and his shipping prices were $2-$4 less than everybody elses. Oh, and it seems like 90% of eBay diecast sellers are located in CA, so by purchasing from out of state, I also saved 8.25% sales tax... Again, couldn't do that locally.

I've had mine for a few weeks. As budget 1/24ths go, it's pretty good. I did some things before assembling to make it look better:
-Shimmed the front end so it sits lower
-Blacked out the exhaust pipe holes
-Painted flat black around the edges of the window frame (on car body)
-Painted the insides of the roof pillars and wheel well areas flat black
-Covered up the glossy red paint on the ceiling with a sheet of thin black suede fabric, cut to fit

I'll probably spray paint the extra chrome wheels flat black or gunmetal grey. The wheels look really good, with properly tapered spokes.

My problem is compounded as I live in Canada. I must add the exchange on the US dollar, shipping which is normally much more to Canada, and customs and duty charges (our government is terrible for that). I have to have patience as I can normally pick one up for $30 at either Wal Mart, Sears or Superstore. Toys R Us is normally $10 more expensive. Patience though for a collector is trouble....

O.K., his pictures turned out better than mine did. As for the car, like I said, still not bad for $12.99....

The headlights and wheels look a hell of a lot better than the ones on the HW 1/18 scale one.

My 18-year old son bought me one last night. It's the 3rd one he's bought me from the Ferrari series.

For only $13, a very nice model.
