It seems like a perfect time to pass this car along to another enthusiast, so here goes. I LOVE my Mondial, but I achieved everything I wanted to with it so it's time to move on to another project. Just FYI about this car - not only can you pack a couple of golf bags or a week's worth of luggage in it, but it can take the wife and kids to dinner too. Oh, and it received numerous wave by's to pass both 308's and 328's on the track at Road America as well. As all Mondial owners say, don't knock one until you've tried one.

I've always thought this would be a perfect car for someone that has one or more newer Ferrari's that just are a little much for the street. Enjoy those on track days and on longer trips, and this is the one that you can take to go play golf, go to the store for a bottle of wine, or just take a nice evening cruise.

On the other hand, just as it was for me, this is just about the perfect first Ferrari.

Looks like the Mondial folks aren't commenting...geez - I thought I'd at least get made fun of for the dorky tape I put on the front for the track. (Seemed like a much better idea beforehand!)

I think your car looks spectacular! Having read your past threads and reviewing your ad, it appears your car is a great value for someone looking for the perfect mondial!

There aren't many cars of this caliber out there. Good luck with the sale!

Thanks for the reply! Coming from such a notable Mondial authority as yourself (and in just a few years - but you really know what you're talking about!) that comes as a great compliment. I was really hoping to meet you at an FCA event with both of our Mondials, but I have to admit that after the Coppa GT the racing bug really has bitten hard. The only reason I'm selling the beloved Mondial is to finance an ambition to go SCCA racing in the Spec Racer Ford class. I'll sure miss the sound, the grace, and just about everything the Mondial has to offer, but I just can't seem to get the ambition for wheel-to-wheel racing out of my mind. If I don't sell the car, I hope maybe we can meet up at the Philly/NJ FCA event next Summer. Otherwise, maybe I'll make an SCCA race out east and I'll let you know.

Either way - you're an awesome ambassador for the Mondial..and keep up the good work! Mondials are absolutely wonderful cars and more people should know it!!!

I'm not sure I would buy a mondial that's been tracked. I'd probably not show that third picture. When I first saw the mileage and the awards, I thought it was a nice garage queen for show. But then knowing it's been tracked would probably bring down the price... a lot!

Having hat a Mondial t for 3 years and 14,000 miles, I would specifically be attracted to this one because it HAS been tracked and by a guy who knows what he does.

I have done a complete rebuild and restore of mine. She used to be a garage queen in Monaco, and I put more miles on her in the last 3 years than she had since '89.

Many things went wrong at the beginning, when she had never been tracked and had the lowest mileage. Now, I have tracked her 3 times, with no hitches and eating up newbies in their 911's etc. Sure in the straights 20 year old technology and mechanics are a little dated, but in the corners, physics remain the same and it showed its true colors.

I haven't turned a screw on her since her major+cam belts earlier this summer. Anyone buying her now will have a gem at 26,000 real miles on the clock and be sure all wrinkles have been ironed out in three pretty good shakedowns.

So, if I were looking for a Ferrari, and one to be used all the time (otherwise why buy one?) I'd go for one that I knew was used like a top athlete, pampered when resting so it works hard when it has to earn its rent...

If it looked tracked to death and not looked after, well then it would be a whole other kettle of pistons!

Certainly you must be joking... How hard do you think he could have been on this car at a track day that allowed passengers & did not require a roll bar in a cabriolet? Not to mention that he drove those laps on what looks to be street tires. The car is unharmed.

Now if the car was "RACED" as in door to door redline for 45 minutes smoking brakes on suspension straining wide slicks with gutted interior for reduced weight then "okay" -perhaps the car then has been driven hard. But a little drivers ed event / parade laps like shown in the photo? I drive harder than most guys at drivers ed events when I am on my way to church.

Its silly to even think that a car that made a few laps at a track automatically reduces its value. Silly.

    Precisely!!!

FWIW, His car is well maintained and appears to be in spectacular mechanical and cosmetic condition. The "track" photo is also illuminating because it shows the lengths he went to protect the cosmetics on the track! I think he probably spent more time taping up the bumper and lights then driving :)

Bottom line, this is probably THE car to have if you are looking for a Mondial 3.2 cab

    ....and can't find one in black ;) ;) ;)

Yea right! Common guys, who are you trying to kid here. How do I know he didn't red line to red line on every turn? Burning the clutch, sliding the car sideways and that ways. What? Just because there's a photo protecting the front of the car means that the car was driven nicely? I'm not even worry so much about the body as the mechanicals. The stuff you don't see on the outside or the surface of the engine.

Give me a break. Don't even talk a prestine car when it's been on the tracks. Been there and done that. All cars that's been tracked have a shorter life span. Period.

Don't track a car unless you don't mind pushing it off the cliff first!

Now to find my grandma driven, one owner, all tools and books, less than 1k mile, chip-less, garage queen that I can put in a glass box.

I think you are missing the point. YOU CANT "TRACK" a mondial cab. The regulations on cabriolets without rollbars on tracks are so severe these days it becomes the functional equivalent of a really spirited backroad drive.

Now, if you are saying you would never buy a Ferrari that has some spirited driving in its past, good luck!

Joe is right. Which track was this spirited ride done on? Do the racing helmets negate the need for a roll bar? And by the way, the car does lookk amazing, both on and off the track.

Just so everyone knows, this car cannot be "tracked" because it is a convertible without a roll bar. The picture was taken during the Coppa GT evaluation at Road America in Elkhart Lake, WI at the Ferrari Club of America 2009 National Meet. Helmets were required of anyone driving on the track as an event participant. It was done on street tires that remain on the car and are no worse for wear. Other than that, the car was driven on the track in the white group (speed limited) and in the lunchtime touring with my wife and kids in the car. The car was also in a 20 minute "touring" session at another FCA event last weekend. This details all of the "on track" experience of this car - period.

During the Coppa GT evaluation "overdriving the car" would be a huge points deduction, and "driving smoothly" is very important. I can assure you that the car has never been "redlined", and if I drove it like I see some owners drive their cars on the street I would not have earned the award. For more on the Coppa GT please check here:http://www.fca2009.org/index.cfm/ID/18/iNewsID/7/CoppaGTCompetition

You are taking a chance on how any Ferrari has been driven when you purchase a pre-owned car - at least I can document honestly how mine has and I can prove that it was at the very least driven competently.

By the way, it is nice to see this much chatter about a Mondial. These cars don't get as much attention or respect as they deserve.

HA! You're about right! I actually had it taped all the way up to the top of the headlights - including every slat of the middle section and on the corners of the fenders. The tape just wouldn't hold well up there and on the sides (green tape is much less sticky than blue). I'm kinda glad I had to take that off, as it really looked kinda like a tape "bra" and it didn't exactly do anything for the looks of the car!

WOW, I never knew so many people here were scared of that tiny little redline on their tachometer, its a Ferrari, its meant to do that.

There is a difference between redlining on every shift of every day of its life and the once or twice redline a day, it wont hurt the motor. My Dino sees the redline every day I drive it, sometimes just once, sometimes twice, oh ok sometimes a lot more than that.

Of course get that motor good and hot first, if its cold keep the revs low.

And never do a burnout it just makes you look stupid and eats your clutch.

Now back to this really awesome Mondial

Beautiful car, tracked or not, it is a well kept car and I would not hesitate buying it knowing how the seller took care of it.
