Picked up my BB today, back to 12 in the rear.
Is the window fix down to changing the grease?
Is there a brake upgrade available?
    Any help appreciated

    Dear Ferraristi,

    Congrats!

I CAN'T say a big Freeze...Miami Vice to you since you need to upgrade :)

    But still.....post some pix!

Share your acquisition with the forum.

For upgrades, read the boxer repair thread and PM Newman....he's really an authority on boxers. He's done some amazing work.

......when he has his panties up :D

Congratulations, Neil, welcome to the club.

Windows - there are many threads concerning the slow window issue. Be sure to study those discussing the Testarossas, TRs, as well. The issues are similar.

I am of the group that believes that the hardened grease in the motor is not as significant an issue as the resistance in the channel felt. When rebuilding and regreasing several motors I found that the hard grease has long ago been pushed aside and is no longer between the gears. That said, if you do undertake a "proper" solution, cleaning and regreasing the gears should be accomplished.

If you disconnect the regulator mechanism from the glass, and slide the glass up and down independent of its drive system, you will be able to determine if the felt is offering too much resistance.

Finally, and perhaps most important, is the contribution of age and oxidation to the contact resistance everywhere along the electrical path. I would make sure that the fuse ends are gently sandpapered to bring out a copper luster, and do the same on the fuse holder clips. This is hard to do in the car, but with proper documentation (photographs, paper and pencil), you can disconnect all of the wires and take the fuse block(s) out to clean all of the fuse holders.

At the motor make sure that the male and female spade connectors are abraided (cleaned with sandpaper) to reduce contact resistance.

There are several relay systems available from members of F-Chat that bring 12 volts directly to the motor. However, a bit of detail work, as described above, should bring the windows back to their factory speed....good or bad.

    Jim S.

Big congratulations. You will surely love that car. As mentioned, pics are mandatory, and oddly enough - the more pics you post, the faster your windows work.

Other thoughts on the windows other than jselevan's on spot recommendations are the switches themselves. I cleaned one, replaced oned, made a good difference.

Later, took the motors out, pried off the nasty grease, put in Ricambi accelertators, and INSTANT doubling of speed (from glacial to moderate) resulted. Honestly, no probs since.

Congratulations on the new ride Tiganut! And as the others have said, lot's of pictures are mandatory!
There's also lot's of helpful experience here for any issues you might encounter with your new baby.

And please just disregard the poor misdirected TR guys... One of these days some of them might actually realize what a superior car the Boxer is, so no upgrade required! :D

A good purchase - BB's are great Ferraris both to drive and future investment wise. Alot of classic Ferrari for the money . When those minor annoying probs raise their head like slow windows - just think that at least your not loosing £1,000 a week in depreciation which you would if you'd gone for a 430 .

Well, somewhere in Canada. Or Finland.

mrp_e: Great timing getting out yesterday. I had a small window of opportunity very early Sat to get out but the family went to see an early show of Avatar and by the time we got out the snow was already sticking.
