I took the 400I to Las Vegas for a couple of days. These really are nice Grand Touring cars. I highly recomend going on road trips with yours, it is their element. Fritz

I bought my 400i just for long weekend trips with my wife. We take four or five long weekend trips a year. Starting in South Jersey we have done: two trips to VA, one to the Finger Lakes (NY), one to Eastern Long Island. I have added about 4000 miles since putting it on the road in Feb. of this year. We did the FC Penn-Jersey Region Fall Foliage Run last weekend in the pouring rain; it was not much fun especially with a 512 TR slowing us all down. (All trips include wine tasting at vineyards.)

My wife loves the comfort and ride.

    Alex, not a nice plate!

Someone beet me to "Prancer" in NJ and NJ has funny rules about politicians getting numbers 1-20; I tired several attempts at VEE12 and such but all were taken or reserved for big shots.

As for the car color. I like it a lot but it is a good news bad news story. Dave believes it is not original so tracking down a paint code has proved tough. It may still be a Ferrari color as I have seen a small spot of the original color and it looks pretty close. Rosso Rubino and Rosso Metallic are the only likely possibilities. I need a bit of touch up paint and I may end up tracking down previous owners.

    My exhaust system:
    - 2 1/2" straight pipe from collector to rear resonators.
    - Resonators are not marked but I believe they are ANSA. The twin tips on each side are welded to the resonators and they have an ANSA number.
Two weeks ago on a FClub "ride" the driver behind me and his co-driver were frequently looking at each other and smiling at the "music" they were hearing. On Long Island I was asked by a cyclist if I had driven to Montauk Point the morning before; He loved the sound as I passed by.
I think Dave's exhaust is very similar.

Surprised to hear that you don't like my plate - everyone else who has seen it thinks it is hilarious. Oh well.

On the color of your car, it is Rosso Rubino and it certainly *IS* an original Ferrari color. It may or may not be the original color of YOUR car, but it is correct for the year and model.

Why not register your car with the official Ferrari Owners' site - you will be informed of the original color.

I just LOVE that 1BIGFIAT plate!!! But that may have something to do with the FIAT wheel bolts that I have on my GT4, with the FIAT X1/9 door handles and the FIAT-Bertone design.. :)

Pity, Andrew, that you didn't take the 400 to the continent. People thought I was crazy taking my GT4 on a trip from Holland to Italy in mid-winter last year. Across the Alps in snow and ice, while only having it for 3 weeks. It may have been naïve to think that we'd make it, but I reasoned that the worst thing that could happen would be having to wait for a tow truck to pick us up when we'd be stranded. And so we took the plunge and ended up with what has proven the most memorable road trip that I've ever undertaken. And other than some leaking 3-piece wheels, the car performed flawlessly.

Next time, take the 400! :D

    Hans,

Might be a touch hard taking the car through Europe next time, as It's in our garage now, in Sydney. :p

When we buy a car next time, (possibly a Testarossa) we will most likley take this through Europe. The main problem we have is obtaining a UK license for insurance purposes, but I guess if we looked into this closer, I suppose our broker in the UK could help us out in regards to this.

Theres always next time, and I'm hopeful that once I graduate from Uni, I will have many more opportunities to do this! (Having said that, the drive through Europe was awesome, even though it was only in a little VW Polo!)

Edit: I absolutely loved the '1 BIG FIAT' and 'V12 4RE' Registration plates. I guess '400 GT' was my favourite, because its exactly the same plate we have on our car!

    Andrew :)
