All I can say is, "Wow!" What a model! I decided to go with the N.M. 641/2 car (w/o figure) over a 312T4 (Scheckter?) #11 car, but I would've been happy with either. The detail on this model is incredible! I'd never seen an Exoto up close before, but having added one to my collection, I can see where things are going to start heading... Goodbye HW...and good by account balance!

All in all, a great purchase, IMO. I do feel *slightly* guilty with it being this close to Christmas and all, but I rationalize it as, "Hey - if I don't get it now, it won't be here for me to get later." Know what I mean?

At any rate, just wanted to share that little bit of excitement from my day with everybody... Cheers.

I noticed that the tires say Goodyear Eagel vs. "Eagle". Was this a misprint or something? Does that make my model more rare?

Good that you've found the light. Yes, Exotos are just the best. Fantastic models. not much that comes close in terms of detail in 1/18.

While Exoto makes a wide range of nicely detail models, they don't even come close to matching the quality and detail of models done by CMC of Germany. CMC has a very limited range of models by comparison and focuses mainly on Mercedes Benz but what they do have available has to be seen to be appreciated. They are spectacular!

Take a look when you get the opportunity, you will be amazed!

They (CMC that is) have a 250 GT SWB planned. I'm looking forward to that model! But I'm afraid the pricetag will put me off...

Actually the 250SWB from CMC will carry a list price of $209.00US, according to their site, and you will be able to buy it for less over the Internet. Exoto is in the process of raising all their prices and I think you will soon find them to be more costly than a comparable model from CMC. This will be CMC's first Ferrari and their's no doubt in my mind that it will be outstanding. Also coming out is the Maserati "birdcage"! All of these models are quite costly for a 1/18th scale die cast but, the quality and detail of the latest releases from CMC is worth every penny of the asking price and more. My collection consists mainly of hand built models from some of the finest builders in the world and I must say, CMC's latest release, the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren (I received mine a couple of days ago) puts some of the handbuilts to shame at a fraction of the price!

    CMC Forever!

The CMC's do look quite good. I guess a little unfortunate that their main concentration is MB's. :p I'll definitley have to look into that 250, as it'll be cheaper than the Exoto, and from what I can see from their other models, it will have fantastic detail.

Thanks for the replies, everybody! These CMC models definitely sound like their worth investigating. This upcoming 250 SWB is at the top of my list. Can anybody provide info regarding a more firm release date and the colors that will be available?

Saw this question unanswered. Yup, "Eagel" was a misprint, they changed that into the correct "Eagle" very quickly. You have one of the few "error cars" that are around. Very rare.

Both companies make fantastic models that were unimaginable 10 years ago. For the money CMC is amazing, being $30 - $50 less retail than most Exotos. However CMC has done only Mercedes and Auto Unions so far, which is fine if you're interested in buying models of those cars. I really wasn't interested in the vintage '30s racing cars but after seeing a CMC up close I had to have one, and now own 3:
    Auto Union Type C
    Auto Union Type D
    Mercedes W154

I'm planning on getting the Mercedes W25 or W125 when I can find one at the right price. The Type C is amazing, with a claimed 1000 odd parts used in the construction. Each real wire spoked wheel is supposed to have something like 76 spokes each, and can be dismounted from the spindle by removing the scale metal knockoff. The W25 and W196R also have this same feature. These 3 models are there most recent releases and incorporate more detail and features than earlier models, demonstrating the continuing advancements in the model manufacturing industry. If they do release a Ferrari I will be right in there to buy one.

Exotos are pricey but they are amazing too, and the only real choice for many models as nobody else makes them. As you already found out the Ferrari 641/2 is gorgeous. So are the 312 series (T, T2, T4), the Renault RE20. All these ones have removable cowlings to show off the interior workings. Unfortunately the other cars in the F1 series do not (Tyrrell 003, P34, Lotus 49s and 72s, 312B). The new MP4/6 and FW14B will also have removable cowlings.

I have the "King of Rain" set, which has a 312T (Lauda driving) and T4 (Villeneuve driving) with rain tires, a 312T without a driver, and a 641/2 without a driver. I also have several of the Renault RE20s, one of the Tyrrell P34s, several of the Tyrrell 003s (Stewart and Cevert), Lotus 72D (Charlton) and the Lotus 49B (Andretti). The two Ferraris I don't have yet are the 312B and 312T2 but I plan on getting them sooner or later, along with the MP4/6 and FW14B when they are available.

That makes about 13 F1 Exotos and 3 CMCs. I'm somewhat embarrassed to admit I also own about 20 non-F1 Exotos (3xPorsche 934, 3x935, 2xChaparral 2C, 4xGT40s in both Mk2 and Mk4, 2xCobra 260, 2xCobra Daytona, 3xSauber C9s) and 25+ AutoArts and Kyoshos. In the Kyoshos I have several of their Ferraris, 365GTB Daytona, early in red, late in yellow, 365GT4/BB in black and yellow, 328GTB QV in red and black. On top of this there are assorted Lamborghinis (Miura, Jota, Countach 400 and 5000), Jaguars, Porsches, etc, etc. Then there are the Buragos (3x360, 2xF40, 2xF50, 250GTO, 2x250 Testarossa), HotWheels (2xEnzos, 360 Spider, 250 Testarossa polished) and finally Maisto F50.

As you can tell I have been buying far too many models and should have been saving up for my real Ferrari instead! :)

If I look at the road racing en sports prototypes models by Exoto I'm really looking forward to their to be released Ferraris (GTO, SWB, 275, F40/LM). I've got all the F1 models but these road cars would be a nice addition. I assume they will be better than Kyosho (Kyosho doesn't always get it right with details or bodylines) and probably AutoArt (I've ordered their Countach and Miura - if only they had a license to build Ferrari models too).

    Hello again bigodino,

I would agree, the Ferrari models from Exoto, such as the 250GTO, SWB, 275, F40, etc. should be very nice but, be very patient. I have had an order in for the 250GTO for 2 1/2 years (when it was first announced) and I'm still waiting. Their is NO news at this point when, if ever, it will show up. This, from what I understand, is typical of Exoto so, for your sake, I hope you have the patience of a saint.

    Good Luck,

The guy I bought my 641/2 from flat-out said he "hates" dealing with Exoto for that reason, as well as many others...
