So I got pulled over on Sunset and Vine today. They ran my car and it came up stolen, so here I am in handcuffs on Sunset on a busy Sunday afternoon. After being detained for an hour at the station they found out that the cars vin that they ran was not my car and in fact a 94 red Honda. Big misunderstanding.

The cops funny enough were really nice, professional, and fun. We were joking and I knew the car wasn't stolen so I wasn't too scared.

    Good to be home

LOL. Great story. Sorry you had your Sunday interrupted though. Glad you and the cops took it in good spirits.

So what did they do with your car when they took you in? Tow it?

At least you got a good story out of it, could have been worse. I'm glad everything worked out. I was going to tell you to get out to the VCR for the next cigar night, but I think we passed a rule regarding ex cons. ;)

It seems like they would double check the VIN before arresting you or taking you in. I would think this could have been cleared up on the street.

    glad everything worked out, antony.

two weeks ago, i was stopped going 80 in a 70 zone in my jag (late for board meeting). after checking my driver license, the officer informed me my license has been suspended since feb of this year. i was dumbfounded and had NO IDEA......i should've been taken into the county jail and car towed but the officer was considerate enough to let me go

as it turned out, the ticket had been paid back in december of 05 but kansas DMV was too busy and never got around to post it. it was cleared within 20 minutes (most of that time on hold to talk to the right person). now i got to get an attorney to deal with the aftermath clearing the "driving w/ a suspended license" and change the speeding to non moving violation.

Sounds to me like you were the one who was nice about it!

Hopefully they gave you one of their cards... Hopefully to get out of a ticket someday...

    Glad it worked out OK.

I was pulled over in my neighborhood in my Lotus a couple of weeks ago b/c the cop "wanted a closer look at my car." While his was questioning me he asked for my drivers license and proof of insurance. Of course I had my license, but the Lotus does not have a glove compartment and I could not find the insurance card. So he goes back to his car and starts to write me a ticket. Finally I find the insurance card and he lets me go with a "warning?!"

I did not know whether I should be offended for being pulled over for no reason, or if I should take it as a compliment. I have had to explain to several neighbors that I was NOT speeding.

I got pulled over a few months ago for street racing.

Cop said " I am giving you a ticket for street racing"

To which I replied " For racing, what, that corvette"

    Cop said " Yes"

I replied " SIR I was at least 3 or 4 cars lengths in front of him, That was not a race. Do you have something for domination or something like that?"

Redneck syndrome: "oops" is a four letter word.

If a cop will go ahead and tell me that he just wanted a closer look, I'd be glad to give him a tour -- I almost always make time for gearheads. It's the ones that say that "you looked too fast" that bother me.

Of course, the cop that tried to write you a ticket on a gearhead stop needs to review his "probable cause" playbook. Even asking for license and registration would be pushing the line. I suspect any ticket on that stop would be invalid ... legally, at least. Although a number of traffic courts, these days, tend to count on the ticket fee being less than your time is worth. (Perhaps you're in a state that has approved arbitrary "random stops" -- and hasn't had a judicial review of its constitutionality yet.)

It's amazing that they were able to come up with a VIN where the check digit actually matched - nearly impossible IMO. Transposing a character or two from yours should not have produced a VIN with a proper check digit.

I had something like that happen a few years ago in my mustang; I was pulled over for "driving too close behind the car in front of me" this was at night also on a Saturday. The cop started to look over the car, the interior was gutted for a stereo system, he asked what I was doing with it so I told him, then he started asking other questions engine, performance, upgrades. Finally I said "wait a minute, you just pulled me over to look at the car didn't you" the cop just smiled and said "have a nice night sir."

Every time I take out the mustang it's guaranteed to get pulled over once per weekend, it happened every time and it was usually nothing.
