Well, I finally got around and installed these pedals I had gotten from Sodacoms, sorry I work slow. But I will tell you, it did not take long to drill through the pedals. It took me 1 hr and most of that time was making sure they were line up before I started to drill. Like people said before you need I good corded drill and new set of drill bits (pic 1) put a piece of block to hold pedal (pic 2) I used duct tape for the mark (pic 3) drilled the holes, painted the original pedals a fresh black, cleaned that little boot thing where the gas pedal is and cleaned the reflector, mirror thing too (sorry about the "thing" part don't know the real name) And last pic the result. Not to bad. I hope you like my "show and tell" Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
You mentioned that you painted the original pedals a "fresh black" before installing the new ones. What did you use to paint the old ones black? I'm guessing something that could be brushed on, yes?
Aaron, I used a spray can of black metal paint i had hanging around. Nothing special. The gas one needed three coats to stick.
Obviously you put some newspaper or rags behind the pedals to avoid overspray on the floor carpet and foot well?
chris03053 - seriously , great job ! I know it's not too easy to do , but you'll love those pedals !!!
There has been a previous thread on these pedals, and there was a debate about drilling fast or slow, which did you do, I have a set of these pedals but I haven't fitted them yet
A fresh drill bit and a correct length piece of blocking are the most important. A good cordless drill could do the job, but the corded drill is better suited for this job. Pedals look nice, hope you enjoy driving with them! BT
Pete, I used a 1/4 bit and started slow, once the hole started then more like 3/4 full speed. My first try it locked on me almost twisting my arms (what can i say i'm a beginner ) so be careful on the first try.
I didn't want to make a new thread so I'm recycling a old thread of mine. Anyone install one of those aluminum passenger foot rest? I was trying to find some pictures from others that might have done it, but nothing came up. Is this how it goes? Image Unavailable, Please Login
Frye...Frye... I have not done the passenger side yet, but I did have these made up by a guy in NC. He said the going rate would be around $175-$200 for the 4 piece set. If anyone is interested, I can reach out to him. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Looks good. But on the passenger side is it supposed to be screwed on to the mat like I have it placed in the picture?
Mount it on a piano hinge from above then the mat can be removed and you will have access to the panel back there.
What about adding holes to the floor mats where the mounting holes are, and have a carpet shop bind the edges of the holes.? Then use blind nuts on the panel under the mat. This would keep the mat in place and allow a solid surface to bolt to.
Looking good! I have been thinking of doing this. OK, a few other things too and I am not sure where it is on the list. A sharp bit always makes a difference. Another tip, use a center punch to make a small dimple to prevent the drill from wandering. Simple but you will feel better even though any small mistakes will be covered up. It will also ensure perfect alignment.
Always been slightly envious of the nice big dead pedal you get in the LHD cars. The one we get on the RHD version is tiny and pretty useless (because its just on the side of the centre console).
