Sitting outside for a late lunch today when a formation of what looked like WWII planes flew over.

Then they looped back and flew over again.

2nd time, I sort of got a picture.

Don't know who they were, suspect they were landing at the Punta Gorda, FL airport.

Just thought I'd post it up with a picture.

There's a warbird dealer on the west coast of FL somewhere. I wonder if they were headed there?

Dunno. Lakeland is pretty far north and east of us. Maybe 75+ miles. But we do have a small collection of WWII airplanes at the local airport, which actually has a runway big enough for A320's to land. Might not be a bad spot to park a couple dozen planes, pre-event.

And from the looks of it, they've spent some time together flying around. :D

Looks like they put all the amateurs in the number 2 four ship, but that is a good looking formation.

There is nothing more enjoyable than flying formation with a bunch of guys who know what they are doing. I was in a group of PT-19's and PT-26's with Lew Wallace, Boeing Chief Test Pilot, in the airplane next to us and as an old Navy pilot, he was tucked in close and eyes locked on us. Great fun when we turned to make a flyby down the flightline. I thought about his experience starting with F4U's in the war and then flying the 707, 727, 720, 767, 747, 757, P-12, and too many to many others to list. Makes you feel like a rank beginner.

They are at Punta Gorda for a North American Trainer Association formation clinic running through April 5. Most will hop over to Lakeland for Sun n' Fun the following week. The observation about the newbies being put in position two is correct.

Here's one of the many photos I took during a formation clinic at Culpeper Airport this past October.

My house was buzzed by a couple dozen of them today. So it will go on for a few more days, which is extremely cool.

Cool sight.... Saw the same thing over head on veterans day. Have a Canadian Legion hall few miles up the road from me. A group of AT-6 are at the airport here and they did a flyby of the legion. Someone also owns a spitfire at the airport.
