Just incase if some of you didn't know this, last weekend I was driving back to Brads from manhattan and as I exited the Midtown Tunnel I jumped on the gas of my 360. As I driving on the LIE all of a sudden I heard a Huge explosion, in my startled state of mind i looked in my rear view mirror and saw a blue flame. As I was pulling over and scared out of my mind, I jumped out of the car and opened the rear engine compartment. I saw that the two rear air intakes that lead to the head were apart from the car. Thanks to my Hommies that came to my aid i was able to get the car running again. I spoke to a few people in regards to why and how could this happen. But no one really new, until today my uncle who has a repair shop in LA stated to me that this was caused because of the rough roads that we drive on in NYC. and that this problem could easily be avoided by just checking the car out every once in a while and making sure that everything is on thight and snug.

Glad nothing else serious happened. Were you able to fix it, get the intakes back on tightly, or did you bring it in and all to get it checked out?

Actually, it's the 360 owners that run into trouble from time to time:

    - Rene with his filters

    - Jon C. with his temp gauges

    - Noah with his F1 system and wheels...

    Everyone but Hubert...

If the both boots from the air box to the intake plenum shifted out of place, the Air Flow Meter misread, the engine missed and then backfired bigtime--hence the flame shot from the intake (out-take?). It sounds like a backfire, not an engine fire as was initially thought from the other thread.

Why one or both boots came out of place is the question. It is unlikely that an extreme shift under load was enough to pull these off. The rubber boots have enough travel and elasticity under all loads and hard acceleration/downshifting.

Brad, did you find the clamps relatively tight when you tried to refit them?
Did you wind up replaceing the clamps?

Also, was there an exhaust system change done recently? Air box removal is required for the exhaust change...
