    Hi all,

I recently moved to North Carolina (Durham RTP area) from Central PA. I haven't seen too many Ferrari's down here, just one yellow 360 at Lotus of Durham. Is anyone here from the RTP area?

Also, if so, can anyone suggest any good detailers in the area?

    Thanks!

You're going to need to move to Charlotte if you want to see any Ferraris!
    :)

    Only kidding!

Yeah, the more I get to know Durham, the more it reminds me of the ghetto, although there are some nice parts. I probably won't stick around RTP after school is over, though!

You need to go to Raleigh, Cary, or Chappel Hill if you need to stay close to RTP.

They're around, a lot scattered on the southwest side of Cary. I can't think of any detail places that I've heard people raving about, but I'll let you know if I come up with one. Are you at Duke?

    I don't know if I'm cool or not :)

I live pretty close to you I think (Erwin Rd - Lofts at Lakeview). No Ferrari yet, but if you see a black Mercedes G500, that's probably me. I'll be on the lookout for your Mondial.

Do you happen to know a reputable place to have my NC inspection done?

As long as you don't have a need to illegally pass, its the same every where. Look around for a place that just does inspections and you can watch them as they do it, if that is your concern. As far as the process, they check all of the lights and then plug into your OBD port and it does everything and then you are good to go.

You'll have to look around Raleigh or Cary to find many Ferraris in the RTP area. Much of Durham IS a ghetto. Cary would be where the "new money" lives.

As the others have said there are a few F cars around, but they aren't common. I have seen a 355 and a 360 on NC State Campus. Around here it seems if you have a "BMW" even if it is a 1990 3 series, you have accomplished all there is in life.

Well, all I can say is that you guys haven't been around here very long...

The climate and the influx of people from the Northeast and the West Coast have brought a LOT of cars into the area. Besides, Foreign Cars has been in business for twenty-eight years, selling HUNDREDS of Ferraris locally.

Just to be clear, the red 360 you probably saw on campus belonged to a student who was self made, so I wouldn't attribute anything to lack of drive. I have at least two Ferraris living within a half mile of my house and I am by no means in one of the wealthier neighborhoods. They're not at every stop light, but at the same time, there isn't a drastic shortage of them either. Go to any FCA meet and you'll find out how many really are in the area. Granted it isn't Miami or LA, but most people also aren't as consumed with showing off their wealth and debt here as they are in those locations.

Edit: Just realized who it is. I wouldn't read too much into the cockiness on the student message boards and take that as representative of the actual residents of the triangle. I've found the local Ferrari community to be more welcoming than any of the lower echelon owners groups.

If you have a $150.00 a day crack habit and enjoy getting car jacked, then Durham will be perfect for you. .......if not, then I'd get out while I could.........Welcome to North Carolina by the way :)

Yeah man, I didn't really mean that to sound like NC State students don't have any drive. I just meant those are the cars I have seen around, but a lot of the "car guys" at school seem to worship some "BMW's."

And "car guys" is in quotes for a reason. Besides, part of the allure of Ferraris is their rarity, so I'm glad we don't have them driving around everywhere. I don't think I would be nearly as excited. Oh well, he is a Dukey, I don't know how much more we should help him out ;)

I actually haven't seen to much of Durham since I've only been there a few weeks and am currently at my parent's place in Florida - but I am beginning to see what you mean. Alston Ave and driving to the DMV was no joke (and i'm originally from NYC - lol).

I blew past a black G-Wagon on the beltline the other day and thought it could possibly be you, but it was an older guy. I should have known when it was going 55 in a 65.
