Well, I tried to sell her on my own, thur ebay and here on Ferrari ads but did not have any luck. So I put my 1995 F355B red/tan with 31k miles with a high end dealer here in NJ.

If they sell it they will give me 58k. What do you guys think of that number.
It will be due for a major soon as the last one was done 4 years ago at 21k miles.

For such a nice car it seems about right. They have costs - overhead etc.

If you can hold out until the spring you'll probably get what you are asking now (in the private sale), but be able to get it easily. I have my 355 and Mondial t for sale, and in all reality, I don't expect to sell them until spring. My 355 is also due a major, but I'll probably end up doing that myself with the help of the SoCal 355-soon-to-be-brotherhood :)

Do you have an arrangement whereby you can still sell it on your own? If I didn't have a mortgage app out right now, it'd probably already be in my garage. Gorgeous car!

I am selling it because I can use the money for other things at this point in my life. I will have another one or a different model at some point in the future, as I just love the fcars.

Yes, I can sell it on my own if someone is interested, but I am not marketing it at this point.

Consignments should be where u and the seller agree on a price to try out, say $65K for your car. They detail the car and advertise it. You agree to pay them a set fee for the sale, say $2500 or so. By setting a price to u, there is no guarantee that u r going to get treated fairly. If they sell the car for a higher price, they make out huge at your expense. Hardly fair. I would renegotiate the terms to something more along what I suggested.

Example: Figure ur car will sell for $60-$65K depending local market variables and ur car's condition, mileage, maintenance, etc. You agree to have them list it for $64,900 to be adjusted as necessary by mutual agreement. They agree to detail the car and present it for sale, also they advertise it on their web site (assuming they have one) and to their clients. You agree to list it with them for 60 days, renewable for 30-day increments thereafter. You agree to pay them a flat fee of $2500. You agree to pay them the fee regardless of who sells the car during the 60 days (in case u find an interested someone, this protects them). They agree to bring u every reasonable offer and check in with you weekly for a status report.

This is how u sell a car on consignment. BTW, this is what I did and it worked out great for me.

Yup. That's how it's done. Other than that, you'll get almost that much out of a sale by going through one of the brick-and-mortar (not eBay) auctions, and that's the fastest way to do it I'd think.

its a nice looking car gl with the sale. I second that I have been trying to sell my 355 spider for months and the only way you could sell it is to almost give it for free. not like a mbz or a porsche its so easy to sell. but with the ferrari's service reputation its like we are the last owners of our cars.

Geez, ur depressing me. You have to hit the market right on these cars. I think one of the problems is that we are coming off an economic high period where there has been a lot of discretionary money around. Things are changing, so there are less prospects looking for cars. Ferrari's are always halo vehicles. Sports car fanatics aspire to own one.

So, how many sports car enthusiasts are out there now who desire and can afford to own one? My guess is less than 2 years ago. The factory production of late model Ferrari's has saturated the market with 355's and 360's. Now that the 430 is out, the 355 is getting hammered IMO. The cycle seems to run this way with the cars, in that pricing stays up on recent generations until a successive generation puts downward pressure on it. These are opportunities for buyers. The 348 is the sweet spot in pricing/performance (3 generations down). The 355 is coming into its time. Older 3x8 cars are bifurcating into two markets: affordable exotics (77-82 308's) and collectables (GT4's, 308QV's and 328's). There is some overlap and condition/mileage are variables, but this is how it appears to be shaking out.

I think Bobaer's car is great opportunity and I'd be a potential buyer except that I am on the wrong coast. I might be able to work around the valve guide issue, which is a compromise for me.

From an active buyer's perspective, here's my 2 cents.

Of the cars I've looked at, 3/4 of them have SERIOUS issues. I mean, the search begins and I find PPI with $15,000 repair estimates, histories of fire, neglect, and/or title-mileage issues. So, I'm now very suspect of every car on the market.

Most owners have not been very forthcoming with details and just sensing that kills the deal for me. If I ask a question, I want time spent answering it. I want to know everything. If the B-pilars have paint, tell me. If the alternator is whining, I want to know. If every interior part sticks, I want to know. Its not a deal killer - they're all like that. Bubbling AC panels = who cares?

When I go to Best Buy to buy a plasma, I grill the salesman because I want to know the details and product quality. Therefore, you can imagine the analysis paralysis I feel when looking at a Ferrari. I have reached the point where I realize that there is no car that fits 100%, so you find the 85% perfect car and bite.

It seems there are some "deal" cars out there, but I'd rather find a nice example for $8k more and feel comfortable that I can drive it sans issues. My fear is that I buy a decent car, but then discover the $11,000 in repairs 3 months down the line.

I am not satisfied that some of these cars will have valve-guide issues and others will not. My feeling, somewhat uneducated, is that at some point, ALL of the 1995-1997 cars will need the work done. And, if you haven't been reading the 456 forum, there's some not-reassuring news over there, too.

That being said, Jon's car looks very well documented and taken care of. I try not to think too much about it. If he lived close enough for me to hear it, I don't know if I could hold out. Analysis paralysis from my office here for now.
