Thank you. When I worked the pits, I made up little signs in each of the driver's native language. "Please, if you do not mind, I would like your photo. Please look at the camera" Worked every time. I would flip the sign over, and it would say "thank you", again in their language. A bit of being polite, and these racing stars put down their protective walls. I made prints of all of these, and then had them autograph the prints. The really really good old days. Yes, racing was dangerous, and sex was safe. But now.....and I always carry condoms.
Very cool picture. How I wish I saw these guys in my life time. I'd give anything to meet James Hunt.
saw him once at Watkins Glen - said Bonjour to him and i think he said "salut" hard to remember all the way back then
But that is why I try to share these experiences with all of you. It is the responsibility of a soul.
Indeed. I remember it well: They were testing at Hockenheim after a motorcycle race has been held there the previous weekend. He lost it in the Ostkurve, the superfast 180 degree turn and crashed into the catch fences, which were still there from the bike race. The car got stopped in the fences, but one of the many poles hit him in the head. Here a shot I took of him earlier that year at Brands. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice shot, thanks. There are quite a few forgotten drivers it seems who made quite an impact and contribution to the sport and its history, the unsung hero's if I may, I really respect those drivers. A driver does not have to be a WDC to have a storied history in F1.
We have to get together! Amanda STILL has not used all of those lovely dresses!!! Come to Austin and take more F1 pictures.....
Amazing pic RP, i like very Much depailler, he was a great driver, too bad about his accident in 79, he was a championship contender. I really admire him.
