Well ok rather I just didn't spend it. I took my GT4 out on Wednesday and it wasn't very happy. Fine at in-town criuising speeds 30-40mph, but when I opened it up on the motorway it was popping and spluttery. From what I read the distribtor is prone to problems from the twin points, advance etc, and I never liked the idea of having points anyway. Also all Fiat's I've owned in the past have had bad carb days... So I called up Superformance in London who sell a nice sounding programmable electronic ignition kit with replacement stock-a-like dizzy (but with cheap cap) and it sounded good. So I figured I'd save up for one of these. Took the car out again today and it ran like a dream! Not a single pop or splutter. I could only think that one (or more) of the carbs was in a bad mood last time. The only other thing was that is was a little colder weather last time and normally I let the car idle for a good few minutes before I set off but today I pretty much drove off after no more than a minute. Any other thoughts? bit of dirt which settled/cleared itself perhaps ? Hmm, well I saved some money...for a while anyway. Still want to get rid of the points though Lee '77 Euro GT4
Sounds more like an intermittant ignition problem - I've got one on my 328 - sometimes its great - sometimes it misfires (but only at about 6500 rpm!) Could be a whole range of things from plug wires to dizzy caps to coils etc etc etc.... Sometimes you have to wait for things to get worse before you can identify the problem! If it starts misfiring again then stick an inductive timing light on the thing & see if you can see an ignition issue & where it is. In the meantime, long may it continue to behave itself! I.
