Just saw the movie yesterday afternoon. Didn't like the first one; thought the second one was very good. Much more character and plot development to it. I think I read somewhere that they had a Pulizter Prize winning novelist work on the script (?) Might be wrong on that one, though. I had a preconceived notion that Dr. Octapus might turn out to be cheesy, but I think they did a good job in pulling off his character; rang pretty true to the comic book's intent.

I'm a comic book fan from way back, and am fortunate enough to have amassed a multi-thousand book collection with most of the key issues too (except, ironically for this movie review, Amazing Fantasy #15). But have the 1st appearances and/or issues of Ant-Man, FF, Daredevil, Avengers, Dr. Strange, etc, etc). I haven't collected in about 10 years now, but I'm happy to see some action to this genre.

    Regards,
    Chris.

Patrick, I don't like flame wars and rarely participate. However, in this case, people like Matterhorn and Dr Strangey have earned the right to be able to express their opinions without getting *****ed out. Anybody who risks their life so that you and I can waste time on FC gets a free pass from me.

    Take care, Dale

Im not putting down anybody who has fought for our rights. My best friends brother, my cousin, my neighbor are all people fighting right now. I have the upmost respect for them, if i was old enough to be fighting i would, thats why if the draft does happen to get ennacted again i will not burn my draft card or anything like that. I just dont see the reason for all the assumptions about people you have never meant, the points are valid, but we do not need to be making fun of anyone.

Sorry, Dr.Tax, but you're wrong this time. It's Cap't Granitehead that wandered into the thread and pissed on it without even having seen the movie in question. That's the mark of a jerk, period, regardless of who he may have killed or why.

Maybe I do have a comic book collection, and maybe I don't. But it is again obivous that you are completely missing the point here. You want to express your opinion about Hollywood movies, by all means, start your own thread and express them until you turn blue if you like. READ THE TITLE OF THIS THREAD AGAIN and maybe read some of your own f/u posts also. Perhaps you will see that you did more than simply expressing your own opinion on a Hollywood movie.

As for the people that are in the military, I have tremedous amount of respect for them, as I have spend years working with and taking care of them. From WWII vets to Gulf War vets, seeing young kids coming into the VA before they were on their way to Iraq wasn't easy either, as I can only pray for all of their speedy and safe return. Also, being in the military is not the only way to prove and be a patriotic American. Millions of fine American civilians do their part within our country, day in and day out, as they are the ones that keeps this nation of ours running. Should their credit be discounted just because they are not serving in the military or that they are not with the special forces? I was there at the WTC on 9/11, I saw hundreds of civilians there doing what they can to help out. So are the people from all over the country doing whatever they can, and tried their best to help out in the best way they know how. In my book, all those civilians are heros, every bit as much as the ones overseas in Iraq or anywhere else in the World for that fact. Even before that, are the ones at the Oklahoma bombing any less of a hero because it was an attack within instead of from an attack directed by a foreign power? Patriotism is not defined or proven by what you wear or what you wave, it is defined by what is within each and every single one of us.

Why do you think these movies are better than spiderman? Just a question!

BTW, I like Ronin and FMJ.

Opinions and all are great, but you really should use a disclaimer stating your strong preferences for military/war movies and westerns(GF, heat, ronin excluded)when you comment so strongly on something that isnt. I personally think that would explain just a little bit about your comments.

Then again if you want to leave people no clue at all on why you say what you do, well that's your business..

Reasons why Spiderman 2 sucked. *Some spoilers*
    A) Peter Parker is a hardcore wuss.
    B) People don't behave in really life like they do in that movie.
    C) The computer animation blew chunks. Most of the Dr. Octopus stuff was decent, Spiderman looks horrible though.
    D) Some physical acts that they do are not really achievable. This does not heighten the experience.
    E) Spiderman can lift huge amounts of weight, when Spiderman punches Dr. Octopus there would be tremendous damage.
    F) The script confused canned emotion and idiotic tirades about superheroes as quality writing. This might relate to point B. Overall, I felt like falling asleep as the characters started talking. I did/do like the responses of the characters after finding out his identity though
    G) Peter parker is a idiot about managing money.
    H) The spiderman power is not something that goes "on" and "off". it has to do with the physical construction of the human (or not so human) body. You don't have to "feel" it in order to get the power. Dumbasses. [I haven't read the earlier comics so I don't know if this actually happened in the comics.]

Personally, I think think X-Men & X-Men 2 set the standard for how comic book movies should be done. They are highly realistic within the universe that they are set in. The cheesiness of this movie seemed to be a mockery of the comic. The humor was really pathetic as well.

LOL Matterhorn… I would hate to see what you would do if stuck on a plane loaded with Trekies headed to Vegas for their annual migration.

I need to work harder to find you something that will occupy your time.
May I suggest a movie I think you may enjoy (based on a comic) The PUNISHER (2004 version NOT the 80’s one). I have a friend (Ex-military) who shares a similar mindset as you, who viewed this film and loved it. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

In the mean time this tune came to mind when I read your post. (Name the band?)

    Don't damn me
When I speak a piece of my mind
    'Cause silence isn't golden
    When I'm holding it inside
'Cause I've been where I have been
An I've seen what I have seen
I put the pen to the paper
'Cause it's all a part of me

Be it a song or casual conversation
    To hold my tongue speaks
    Of quiet reservations
    Your words once heard
They can place you in a faction
    My words may disturb
    But at least there's a reaction…

OH and to respond to the thread.

I saw Spiderman with my little Bro in-law and enjoyed it. (It’s a leave your brain at home movie)

I do have one question… how do you top Octo?

With...Hydro-Man? The Rhino? Speed Demon? The Beetle? Boomerang?? Seeing that there is a consistent theme of all these bad guys being created by freak accidents in the labs of Oz-Corp (Spelling?) Whats next..? Oz-Corp is testing it’s mega version of Viagra when suddenly lightning strikes the power station and BOOM the Rhino is born…??
Ahh...OK.. I’ll go back to writing business plans and stay away from scripts.

    PD

Venom would be an interesting one! I think they could score with that!!

BUT given the ending of this one I think that Green spandex is in for the next flick.

I would guess that the next villian would be either the Lizard or the Green Goblin. Harry found all of his father's weapons and he does want revenge. He's already getting a little nutty (with the green serum in hand). They have introduced Dr. Connor so the Lizard would be easy to write in.

...could also be J. Jonah Jameson's astronaut son. I believe he finds a moonstone/rock of some kind while on the moon, and then becomes a type of werewolf (?) in the comic series... Something like that, anyhow.
