@JERRYZ I remember when you posted the first post in this thread and I must admit I thought you were nuts... BUT .. certainly can't argue with the results ....I only wish I had bought TESLA shares at the same time .... well done.....
The Model 3 sold for 35K back in 2019 (without any tax credits) What happened was inflation; I don't know if you think that's Musk's fault too. As far as Cybertruck's cost, the truth is? I wonder if it will be $40,000, $50,000 - heck, $100,000 - I know it will come out. Whether people will buy it or not, who knows? Tesla Robotaxi, I never heard of it. I know I've used RoboTaxis for months, and I love them. Do they have problems? Sure - they drive slowly. Also, many Luddites try to sabotage them (I don't know what that's all about.) The company I use hasn't killed anyone for the period I've used them. The same can't be said about human drivers (using same mileage accrued) - that's for sure. I do not know about Musk's robots, but if you ask me if the future will have them, you can guess where my sentiment lies. Seems to be drones have largely replaced many airforce tasks. I have yet to learn about semi-trucks either, other than it's a matter of time before they all will be electric. It's not a matter of if but when. Yes, folks are upset about the 'politics' when judging certain companies. My advice? Try to keep them separate. Regardless what you think the politics in banning incandescent light bulbs, don't let that prevent you from investing in LED. By the way, I think Musk is a jerk, I don't like him as person, but he doesn't ask me to be his friend, he asks me for money to invest, and promises to grow it. Two very different things. Million dollar question... should we sell our Ferraris to buy BYD ??? https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/byd-taking-on-ferrari-by-name.689473/
Selling your beautiful Ferrari to buy more imaginary stock… while people are selling their stocks to finally be able to purchase their dream Ferrari. How ironic
Wow almost all my gains since buying this in 2020 have almost evaporated. Thanks for not Elon!!! I know I should've sold when I was way up...but still!!! Keep your mouth shut!! Sent from my Pixel 8 Pro using Tapatalk
oh one last thing @Steve Magnusson and other Elon Haters, without going into details, he's done an 180 in his P&R. So you guys should read up on his latest thoughts, I've found many folks a few years ago that hated his guts, now sing his praises. Cuz you know, he's on the 'right team' now.
Thanks for singling me out to insult me (very much like a Musk Fanboi). I dislike Musk because he is a con man who promotes the scientific lie that using BEVs will reduce civilization's fossil fuel use and he's a grifitng gov't welfare queen. I actually like what he did with Twitter, and really don't care what his politics are -- get him (and the faux-green religion) out of the taxpayer's pockets! I am liking Tesla stock price and growth going down the tubes. Want to guess what Tesla's Q1 results will be? BWHAHAHA!
It's not meant as an insult; I meant it sincerely. I know you are not a fan of Musk. It never bothered me because I never liked the man personally, either. I chimed in areas that were business related; that has nothing to do with my personal opinion of his character. I am sincere that I've encountered many people who used to hate him and now love him, and vice versa. So just checking to see if you made the switch. If not, that's cool too. I got out of Tesla a while back so I got no 'skin' in the game so to speak. As far as if he is 'con man,' I do think that's quite uncharitable given he had 5 profitable companies with a 20+ year track record, Tesla cars are anything but 'vaporware.'
Nope. As I explained, my dislike for him has nothing to do with his politics. How's that $39.9K Cybertruck coming -- want to tell me that that's not "vaporware"? But the $20K Floptimus Prime nonsense has that nonsense beat by a large margin. And how about those tunnels with car elevators -- was that vaporware or not?
I'm one of the sick people in the head that absolutely LOVE IT. My wife calls it the rolling refrigerator, my kids - the Minecraft low-res half baked jalopy dumpster with wheels. I would say 9 out of 10 folks I encounter hate it as well. But I also own a Mondial, so I guess that explains a lot.
I'm on record saying I don't know what the price will be, just that it will be released. (I believe your claim was it was never going to come out?) They are taking orders soon for the base dual-motor model, which is $60K. You're right on the promised price, and credit is due. Musk did say not 60K, but 40K back in 2019, which inflation-adjusted would be shy of 50K. You're 100% right, Musk missed it by 10K. We all know that Musk has a habit of overpromising and needing to catch up on promises. The thing about Tesla cars, though, is each one (S,3,X,Y) has decreased prices tremendously since their respective introductions, so give it 3-4 years, and you'll see the inflated adjusted "under 40K." Regarding robots, I don't know anything about Optimus, but I do know the OpenAI bots and other competitors are making tremendous leaps and bounds. Robots are here; they will only grow and will become ever more capable. I know you are a neo-Luddite, and that's fine - but denying something is real is different from hating it.
Nope -- never said that. I said the $40K Cybertruck will never exist. Wrong (but thank you for admitting that I correctly predicted that in July 2023). Musk did not say the price needs to be "inflation-adjusted", nor "someday, it will be $40K" -- he said "$40K" and that would be here in 2021 -- both lies. Also, the trucks that he competes with did not go up 50% in price in the same 2019-2023 time period. Musk never "catches up" -- he just lies to the gullible with new future-future-hopey-changey vaporware hype. And I know that you are a gullible Musk Fanboi who has flying-car disease like Musk (many things can technologically be done, but not at a price that makes sense to do them now). A $20K Optimus robot (with the mythical capabilities of Musk) will never exist. Robots were here well before Musk was even born -- but keep being a Fanboi. Get Musk out of the gov't welfare queen system, and I would never complain about him. I know that the future will be better because we always naturally adopt things that are truly better. Giving other people's money to crony-crapitalists like Musk doesn't work to make a better future -- it just needlessly wastes other people's money.
@paulchua I’ve already addressed Steve in the Cybertruck thread . https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/tesla-cybertruck.612829/page-106 His arguments are delusional and heavily biased. Anyone sensible understands no one could’ve predicted Covid and the following inflation in 2019, so his argument a “$40k Cybertruck will never exist” has very little meaning. One can keep pounding the idea “Musk lied!,” but given known circumstances, it doesn’t carry much weight. Very few care. Secondly. The “$40k Cybertruck” which is a single motor, 2wd, with an estimated range of 250mi in 2019 (all CT’s have significantly less range than expected) is a car only 8% of reservationist voted for. It doesn’t exist because the far majority don’t even want it because the specs are too underwhelming for something that cool. He assumes most of the 2 million reservationist (from 2019) only reserved it thinking the car was going to be $40k. FALSE. Cumulative inflation from 2019 to date is roughly 25%. Let’s say it’s 28% by 2025, when the first $80k CT’s are released. So in 2019, dual motor awd CT’s (a spec people actually want) were priced at $60k. This very spec will be $80k in 2025. Cumulative inflation (28%) by 2025 would put $60k as $77k. Hardly a difference, especially when the car as a package is significantly better than what we saw in 2019. How’s that for vaporware?
In short, Musk is a liar because a version/spec of a Cybertruck nobody wants doesn’t exist. Nevermind the fact versions people do want exist. Vaporware.
Oh, look, another Fanboi! Yes, we'll all drive $85K Cybertrucks, and the planet will saved as Musk claims for the reason that we need to keep giving him a lot of other people's money -- do I have that right?
One can a buy a used Tesla right now for $25k (or less) if he wishes to save the planet. People who can/want pay for the new stuff and the people who can afford less get the hand-me-downs. Eventually, they’ll be enough cheap Teslas around for anyone who wants one. An iPhone 6 used to be $700. Now they’re almost free. Eventually, everyone has a smartphone regardless of income level. That’s how it works.
This one shocked the hell out of me. A FREE IPHONE 15 PRO A FREE IPAD A FREE IWATCH Not you pick you one, all 3. With the plan and taxes and all, prolly like $100 a month x 36 = $3,600, The $1000 credit, plus the $1900 for devices means so it nets out to about $200 (plus cost of trade in - go find best thing on eBay) for 3 years, all in? (that with unlimited service) (back of napkin) Damn, that's a good deal.
I run into people who hate Musk, his products, and tofu. I don't have a problem with that. Folks have every right to hate/love whatever they want. Where I draw the line is when folks spread falsehoods. That helps no one, actually, in many cases, can hurt. I'm the type of person who wants to present the truth, and what folks want to do with that is all on them. The problem is that in today's internet world, what is 'true' and 'false' is no longer what it used to be, so people in good faith actually do believe things like, I don't know, the earth is flat. Before, you would be laughed out of the room since fringe theories didn't have the power to gain traction in communities; today? You log in and find a million other people to share your confirmation bias; that is, sail far enough, and you'll fall off the edge. For many, they've fallen off quite symbolically. Why not? If you literally have millions of people that will echo your mantra "the earth is flat" - it becomes your reality. Strap in, with AI, it's only going to get worse. Especially for the 50% of folks on the left side of the bell curve.
Name ONE falsehood that I've stated -- I can name many that Musk has. Where I draw the line is faux-greenies living in denial of what supports their quality-of-life and their thinking that forcing others to use even more fossil fuel to give money to the faux-green religion will do anything other than waste more fossil fuel.
Your one point of contention that is skewed is government subsidies. What big auto makers live off of subsidies, all of them. Ever heard of the chicken tax on trucks?
You are correct that I am against all gov't subsidies -- have you ever heard of two wrongs not making a right?
For starters, you claimed the $35,000 Model 3 never happened. You can go to Tesla right now and pick one up for $38,000 (brand new) Without the subsidies you hate by the way. But that's $3,000 more than what Musk promised you cry! Well I assume you're not too happy about inflation either. I mean, must made the claim in 2015, so inflation adjusted that would be 45K. I mean if you want to say Musk is always late, he's guilty as charged. I mean I can't help but think of when Letterman was making fun of Bill Gates and the Internet. (start at 3:30) - Letterman saying the Internet is a 'fad.' Shepple ate it up and laughed at the nerd.
Believe it or not, on this point, I get you Steve, I hate subsidies too. After all, why is my money going to Musk? Why is Musk's hands in our pockets? I completely sympathize with you, and you have an ally with me here! Let me say it again: I HATE VOTING FOR GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES. BUT, If the government is handing out free money, guess what? I'm going to take it. Regardless if I agree with it our not. I mean we all have the right to not take free money. We can ignore every tax break and withholding. The treasury won't ever turn away a donation to the pay down the debt. I rather not be a hypocrite, that's all. Let me give you an analogy, say the majority folks on an island all vote to take coconuts from me, and give it to someone else. I wouldn't be mad at the person that got my coconut, I would be mad at the folks on the island that had to power to do that. Furthermore, I would do everything I can to get some of my coconuts back, within the rules that we all agreed on. Does that make sense? Ferrari took subsidies too. GM, FORD, etc - in other words, every single automotive manufacturer. So why do you single out Musk for doing what Ferrari did? Am I going to hate Ferrari for picking up money dropped on the floor? No. Cuz I would call them stupid not do it. I do have a problem with the policy, but I don't hate the player, I hate the game, and I make my sentiments known using official civil methods.
