Here is an interesting story for my friends at Fchat. I don't think we'll be having any rides like this around here but thought you might want to read it. I enjoyed it, hope you do too.

"George Suennen placed second in the 155MPH class at the Bonneville 100 open road race in Wendover, Nevada this weekend, averaging 155.047MPH for 101.65 miles, sustaining speeds of 168 over many areas of the course. George ran his Murphy SC'd 90 S4. I helped George install the kit and work out the bugs alng with Tom Cloutier and Dennis Kao. It performed flawlessly providing enough extra HP to accelerate faster and maintain the higher sustained top speed needed to average 155 over the 2-lane backroad that winds through Nevada at 4200 to 6200 foot altitudes. Can't say that about a professionally done SC that was on a new Z (400HP to the ground). Beautiful Vortex factory kit, but the Z couldn't get much over 150 and overheated badly.

Dave L (aka Ketchmi) took first in the 125MPH class averaging 124.978MPH, about .5 seconds off the target. Dave had a great run. 928s have taken 1st place in the 125MPH class in the last 3 completed races, with the previous wins by Paul Mooradian and Rich Sanders.

My bone stock 89 S4 was clocked at 164.4 through the traps on level ground at about 6000 feet at this event - my first B 100. 1600 miles with 101.65 of that at 140+ MPH with the AC on and not even a hiccup (other than a single, freak toothed belt warning the day before the race that I ruled out by inspection that night). Washed off the bugs and bird feathers and drove to work today. What a car!

Several competitors in my class (140) were stunned when they learned my car is 15 years old, cost me only $16K 3 years ago, has 128K miles on an unmolested motor. They were saying things like, "160+MPH for only $16K? Where can I get one?" "

CONGRATS!!! And THIS is what i love... the days of when you could drive to the track, track the car, and then drive it home :)

$16.5k you say? Spent more than that on all the servicing and upgrades on the 308 in the past 6 months. Hmmm...

PS: Sorry you missed the party and look forward to meeting you soon.

    Those days never ended!

For example, at the FCA Lime Rock event yesterday, there are at least a dozen people (including myself) who drove their cars to the track, on the track, and then back home. A significant proportion of people at the track events, drive their cars to the track.

The track is a great place to safely explore your car's potential. Highly recommended!!
