Today I got the state of Texas to give me antique plates for my Ferrari so it no longer has to be inspected and doesn't have to pass emissions (not that it ever did)

    WOO HOO!

Thanks. Getting that V-12 to pass emissions was tough at best. But no more.
There is another bonus; the plates are $67 and they are good for three years!

25 years. My 328 is eligible, but I'd have to give up the vanity plate. Decisions, decisions . . .

Based on the link Tillman posted, antique plates are for show & display cars only. Is that still correct?

You have to read the law carefully. Any driving for maintenance is allowed. Driving for the public good is allowed. Clubs, shows, etc, etc. The maintenance clause is the one that gets you by. Never had any problem with my other cars with antique plates.

Yep, pre 1982 cars can use a plate from the year of manufacture if they want but your vanity plate would be a goner. I gave up mine just so I didn't have to pass inspection or emissions. Besides antique plates are only the rear plate so now I have a personalized Italian front plate :D

That had occurred to me also, I'm eligible. But I'm not giving up my vanity plates, and I already don't have to pass emissions. My inspection a few months ago was a whopping $20!

Congrats! Another bonus point about antique plates...it is only a single plate!

One of the benefits of living in the sticks... no emissions testing on any of my cars, age doesn't matter!

$15 inspection yesterday in San Antonio - longest part was finding the VIN online...(-*

Has anyone ever employed the "rotating" license plate mechanism?

+1 When I got one for a 1970 Triumph motorcycle, the state apparently forgot about it. I never got another notice about renewal or anything.
