Is this the same type of get together that resulted in a 550 (575?) doing a smoky burnout that almost wiped out the car?

Or is this the one that resulted in the police showing up every weekend for several months at the parking lot in K of P to shoo car guys away?

Or is this a new one, bound to result in one or the other (or both) of the above stated activities occurring again?

Will the DVD be made available to all those who attend at no cost? After all, they're providing you with the photographic material. And will the DVD be sold to others for profit?

Just making sure this "get together" is for the benefit of the attendees, and not for the benefit of you and your film crew.

I don't know him, never met him, did not have any preconceived notions but....

Just seems to me his get togethers are self serving. Gather us up, shoot our cars, use the videos for his own gain.

I'll be happy to hear I'm wrong, but it doesn't seem that way to me, and we do have history with this guy, right?

Jon, Joey, Drew, he seems to bandy your names about, so you tell me. Good guy, bad guy, don't know him, whatever?

I don't want to punish a guy for having fun, but I also can't allow the site to be used as a promotional center for non Fchat sponsors or for profit events.

This is the same guy who bluffed his way in to the FCA PA-NJ concours this year by claiming to be an official FerrariChat.com videographer, right?

Dave, dont like to get in the middle of these things but here it goes.
He video taped the Masondixon rally last year. Seems like a nice enough guy. How he got into the Reading concourse is a bit controversial based on the posts on this website but I do not have any personal knowledge of this. He is a car enthusiast for sure. My guess is alot of his "mistakes" as they apply to using this site or other events as an opportunity to promote his business interests can be chalked up to being young and inexperienced. I give him credit he is ambitious and entrepenurial which personally I respect. Too bad the guy isnt being mentored by someone with his best interest at heart...he has potential. My thoughts. Jon

 

I dont know the guy at all but Dave makes some good points. I ll only attend if Dave goes. I dont want to end up at some place where there are cars doing smokey burn outs and the cops showing up because of disturbance issues. If Dave feels its a good thing, thats good enough for me.

I never met the guy, but I will say this, we flew off the handle pretty quick. Do not think Dave's questions were that out of line. Should have been more civil. By the way, I'm getting the car itch again. LOL

Dave, right now I'm home sick in bed. So not sure I'd be ready for anything at 8 am tomorrow, but thanks for the invite. I am not sure yet, but I'll let you all know as soon as I make up my mind. All the mods are done on the M6 and the 997S, so I need something else to play with

I think, based on the reactions I've seen here twice now from him, he may be past the mentoring stage. If he's unwilling to use a civil tone here with a guy like me, then he's not gonna get far with someone mentoring him.

My customers are professional photographers, I'm sure I could find a videographer for him to work with, but that would require my sticking my neck out a bit, and I'm not really interested in doing that for a kid who seems to lack manners and ethics.

Steve has taken alot of crap from alot of different people. The problem for Steve is that in his "business" and at his age (only 20 iirc), its VERY hard for people to take him as seriously as he wants. Sometimes, he has to resort to moderately immature methods JUST to get the attention that he needs or else his business dies. I know many think this to be soley a bad trait, but with steves relative lack of financial backing, its MUCH harder for him to get himself known. The works that steve has produced are EXCELLENT and VERY professional. Yes, he does have some stupid and unsafe things filmed, but that being said, he does amazing car "features" or specials that would look right at home in a topgear episode. Steve just needs someone to mentor him in a way that will be helpful rather than hurtful...


That being said, Steve snapping at Dave was a bit uncalled for, but in all fairness, Daves response was a bit negative and he didnt have to reply if he felt Steve wasnt worth the time.

Hope this helps a bit, and I hope this doesnt turn into a problem! We are all car guys and Steve is no different in that regard.

However, if you want to be taken seriously in business, you have to act serious about your business, and I haven't seen that yet.

What I've seen is snippy responses, abuse of a mod (me) and generally an attitude that mostly indicates he has a GIANT chip on his shoulder.

IF he wants our help, all he has to do is ask for it. A post that starts out with, "I'm working on a new video, can you guys help" would get a much better response here. I have yet to meet a guy on this site who would not lend a hand , given the opportunity and the correct approach.

The only way to get past your mistakes is to learn from them. Steve has taken some high risk shots, run down the shoulder of the road, misused his camera to pass himself off as "official" and generally not done much to impress me with his "professionalism".

I am, however, a good guy, and hopeful to have him prove me wrong. I'm gonna end his ban, as of right now, and see if he can come in here and ask for the assistance he wants, provide some guarantee that he'll be under control, and that his drivers will do the same, and then let's see how many folks he can get.

If he can convince me he's a serious, aspiring professional who simply needs some folks, and their cars, to help him get traction in the video industry, then I'M ALL FOR IT, and I'll help him get there.

If he comes back with the giant chip on his shoulder, well, then that's a different can of worms.

sounds great, I hope Steve sees this as an opportunity to grow and as for help and hope he takes advantage...if not, then maybe he should just head elsewhere...
