For anyone who's interested in kangaroo tv. Last week i sent kangaroo tv an email regarding how few kangaroo TV stands there are at GP tracks. Here is my original email and there response back to me. It seems that its indeed the track venues themselves that are halting the progress of this invaluable media.
What i find hard ti understand is why he Maclaren team are endorsing this product if its the tracks themselves holding up progress.
For any one who does not know what kangaroo tv is here's a explanation video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IB7R76a2d3Y

Subject: KTV Contact - About Kangaroo tv at Spa F1 GP

For the first time i took my son to Spa for the GP. We went with the
plan to rent Kangaroo tv. We were in the bronze section of the track
    which is the biggest section.
We asked what must have been 10 members of the GP staff were we could
rent the Kangaroo TV sets from, and no one even knew what we were even
talking about. I was shocked! Then we saw some one with one and asked
them were they rented there's from. After walking over a mile up the hill
we eventually found a single Kangaroo tv stand that caters for over 35 people.
By the way the kangaroo tv system is a fantastic product which is
invaluable at a F1 event. We really enjoyed using it.
After the race my young son and i had to fight against the
leaving crowds to return the TV unit back up the hill, and then make our
way back down to our car park. This took about 45 mins:-( My advice to
    you is this.
1/ Have more than a single Kangaroo tv stand in area as vast as the
    bronze section at Spa.
2/ Situate the stands bu all entrances and exits. This will make it more
easy and convenient to rent and return.
3/ Educate the various tracks that you actually exist.
Like i said its a fantastic product, but it needs a better business
model for it to catch on.
thanks for your time and i hope you will take on board my comments from my experience at the 2010 Spa F1 GP.

    KANGAROO TV RESPONCE:

    Hi,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your experience with Kangaroo TV
    at Spa.

I understand your unhappiness regarding the placement of the Kangaroo TV
stand. We have been working hard to communicate the very same sentiments
you expressed below with All Sport Management and circuit promoters,
stressing that our product only compliments the experience of watching a
race live which is their core product.

However, it always comes down to costs and at the moment the cost being
charged for kiosk space simply prevents us from having any further
presence onsite which is really a shame.

I would encourage you to share your feelings directly with All Sport
    Management.

    Kind Regards
    Craig

I encountered the same problem in Montreal.

No one knew where the kiosk was and when I did finally find it , it was all the across the track right near the paddock area... and of course right where all the VIP's and expensive seats are
    Great product, horrible customer service.
At least you got a reply back to your email
Still waiting for a reply to my email i sent them over 2 months ago

Interesting - They (along with everyone else it seems) appear to be up against the mighty "AllSport Management". Dunno too much about 'em, but I do know that they successfully got the tractors removed from the paddock due to not being "approved" advertising (!)

Seem even the teams must obey the mighty Allsport - I thought they'd rebel on that one, but it seems even they bent-over. What chance does little ol' Kangaroo have? Unless they increase (substantially?) their prices to cover booth space?

How much was the rental for the W/E?

An alternative may be to "pre-order" ahead of time and see if they'll either ship the things and/or allow pickup *outside* of circuits? [A hotel lobby, a damn parking lot or two?]

Are you going to contact Allsport as suggested? [That may be interesting....]

    Cheers,
    Ian
PS - I remember there being *way* more "commerical activity" outside the confines at Indy - I certainly don't claim to know, but suspect many of these would be inside at the 500 but told Bernie (who owns a chunk of Allsport IIRC?) to shove the booth fees where the sun don't shine and set up outside instead - Who determines if that's legal - The city?

I used KTV twice in Monaco (2008 & 2009) and was pleased with the experience, including access to the rental kiosks. They cut back on the races they attended in 2010 and weren't at Monaco (or at least that's what I was initially told, and in fact I didn't see any presence there), so I can't speak to this season's practices, but in the past it was pretty user-friendly.

I also have found Kangaroo Tv to be great in terms of product and service, and would not do a race without one.
Ok, there is sometimes a big of cue to collect the device, but never more then a 5 min wait.

I have always pre-booked online, and they always have sent out an email in week prior to the race with the location of there kiosk at the circuit, so i have never found it hard to find.

At one of the races i was at in the last year or so, i cant remember what one, there was two Kangaroo stalls.

    huh? From your response email:

It's not the venues (Allsport, actually) that are halting the progress, it's kangaroo TV's lack of sufficient margin to afford more/better kiosk spots.

Well thanks for that. You did notice that i sent the original email to kangaroo tv didnt you? So clearly i thought that also.
Until i got there email back. So thats clearly what i based my comment on. Unless you have inside information regarding Kangaroo "margins"?

at Monza a few years back there were tons of Kangaroo kiosks, probably at least 6 or 8 in the track. We passed a few on the way to our seats. It's true they have cut back, but as stated - each one costs money.

I don't think the lack of kiosks is really that big of a deal. I always rent in advance and I pick it up on the Thursday when I am there for practice. KTV tells you where the kiosks are, so I just add it to my mental to-do list and swing by on the first day I am at the track.

You keep the Kangaroo unit for the whole weekend, so you don't need to get it and return it each day - you get it on Thursday and can keep it until Sunday.

Also, you can mail it back... so if it is severely inconvenient to return it, just take it back home (or back to the hotel) and you can mail it back to them - at least, you were able to do that in 2008 and 2009, although we always just dropped it off post-race.

Regardles of what you have said, or what your experiences was at a given track.
Clearly KTV know there is a problem with distribution at various tracks. thats were the buck stops.
