Anyone heard about a karting setup there? Apparently you can rent shifter karts and run a track, sort of like those indoor karting places? Would love to go up with a few friends to try this out...

They do rent them, but you've got to go to their school. Although Vince was able to deal with the shifter at Atwater, Infenon is another story and that track requires quite a bit more skill. I'd suggest that if you want, we can rent the track, use either 100s (non-sifter) or 80s (shifter, but no front brakes). The 125s are absolutely brutal, and can hurt you big time, if you don't know what you're doing. Lets talk.

I'm there on the afternoon of the 11th. Call me if you want.

You should call the track. I am not sure they rent these outside of a class. These are dangerous karts! Let me get my new engine in my Tony Kart (100ccYamaha) and we'll do a day at the Atwater Track, S. of Modesto.

I'll bring the shifter, and we'll see how they do with that, after they've done a lap or two in the 100.

I'm there!!!! Shifter, 100's, 80's, bicycles...it's all fun. But the shifter is definitely my favorite.

How about those pics from last time? Any chance you could post a few so I can scare my mom!

    Dan- you know I'm down!

PS: None of these are anything like the indoor karts. The 80ccs are fun as hell, but much much faster. It gets worse (or better!) from there.

I am also in if you guys arrange a kart day at Sears. They do have open track days if you have your own kart. I don't have a kart so I have to rent one.

    Art,

Are the karts small enough to fit into a landcruiser sized SUV or do I need something bigger?

And no - I can't get a tow hitch onto the 550...I looked into it. :D

You'll need a trailer, or an older Van with the wide rear doors. The vehicle has to be able to take 45" width to hold the cart. I'm looking for a trailer, 23-25' to hold either the 360 or the carts. If you have a helmet, bring it on Friday.

Art- got room for one more on the sidelines? (and maybe an 80cc if available.) Have helmet that others can borrow too.

YOu didn't miss much. Ben came by, but I think that I've broken a rib or two. Tried to take a short cut through the esses, without a rib protector. Bought one right after but the ribs still hurt.

I've raced there a number of times at the Jim Russell Int'l Karting School. The karts are very well maintained and the instruction is excellent, on par with their racing drivers school. I have a few friends (also fellow Ferrari owners) who are interested in setting up a group karting day out there, so if there is any interest in a NorCal owners group that would like to get together, let me know.

Yes I know its Infineon Raceway, but I started racing there when it was Sears Point

Art: you are a madman. Didn't you just hurt yourself not long ago? Gotta take it easy there!

Still hurting? Hope you feel better.

Angelo: is it karting or the open wheel car school? If it's karting, I'm totally in.

I was going to setup a run with the local indoor karting place, althogh I'm sure the centrifugal karts are slow motion to Peter and Art.

I'll do that day at Sears. I want to use my cart however, its a bunch better than the ones that they have, at least for me.

Dan: Didn't hurt myself before, the ribs hurt now, its been a week, but they are getting better. Should be healed in about another 3, 4 weeks.

My buddy and I are interested depending on when it is. If you are scheduling and have a few dates in mind please pass them on.

    Cheers,

Bobafett: they havge different schools and I've been through both the racing drivers school (open wheel cas with slicks and wings) and the karting school. if we were to do a day of karting, it would probably be for about 16 people max in the school trackmagic karts (not shifters) getting the hang of driving them on that track. we get a lot of track time and classroom instruction showing all the lines, apexes, etc. They maintain the karts very nicely and the karts have electric starts so we don't sit out on the track for 5 minutes if we've stalled it. I don't think they would let us bring our own karts for this. The courses would probably run for about $350 for a day (don't quote me on that) if i could get 16 guys together, but everyone also pays for whatever damage occurs to your kart, regardless of who causes the inevitable wreck. They don't get involved in officiating between people pointing fingers.

I have a friend who owns an 03 360 F1 coupe, azzuro california, who wants to go, so chances are it wouldnt be until september or october.
