Anyone up for it? I went here in Thailand and it just made me itch for more. Only 800 Baht for 10 minutes outdoor with no one on the track. Lets get some Karting action started! !! ! ! !

p.s.- Yes, 800 is like $17-usd, but the karts were more like Petes the GKR. Very fast. Very Fun :)

If it ever stops raining, we'll get out to the Stockton track. I'll get with you, as Art, Dr. Mika, Kris and I are itching to get out.

Sprint Karts are single speed karts that have a centrifugal clutch. They are by far the most popular class of kart. If you go to an indoor Karting venue it is highly likely that the Kart you drive will be a sprint Kart. They usually dont have front brakes but they can still be very Quick. One type of sprint Kart (TAG) also has the luxury of electric start.

Shifter Karts can run on the same courses as Sprint karts but they have a gearbox and front brakes. They are generally quicker than sprint Karts on more open tracks and IMHO take more skill to drive quickly. 125 Shifter karts can feel extremley Quick.
You can also race Shifter Karts on full size circuits such as Thunderhill, Infineon and Laguna Seca. They have some very Quick 250 Karts for this (sometimes called laydowns due to the layback driving position).
Best way to start is with the pay and drive indoor Karting stuff. See if you like it . If you would like to try a shifter I can recommend the Russel Racing School shifter kart class but Shifters are not reccomended for beginners.

I have a 125 shifter kart but with hindsight for the amount of driving I do (I dont race) I would probably have been better off with a 125 TAG. Still just as much fun but easier to start and less stressfull :)

Call my buddy Frank at Yazco in Oakdale (1.5 Hours east of San Jose on Hwy 120) at 209 848-2278. He is an Energy dealer and has a TON of great used karts he'll make you a super deal on. Tell him Pete from Sonora suggested you call. He has new and used TAG and Shifter karts.

Thsi weekend looks to be more, and more rain!!!!! I've got to prepare the cart for a track day, and probably will do that this week. However, we probably won't be able to run for another 2 weeks or so.

A track day just means a day the track is open for recreational racing. AND means going over the kart to make sure the nuts and bolts are tight, the clutch, tires, tuning, etc. are in good shape so the kart can be pulled out from the trailer and on to the track with no problems.

    whatup Rich and gents,

i'm down if anyone wants to play up at infineon (having my kart stored there). I run TAG (touch and go) and just wanted to clarify that there are some sprinters that are direct drive (ICA)---usually for the top dogs.

    ekartingnews.com is a great site.
as for infineon, call KLS Racing or Cameron Karting - if you want to store your kart there, learn karting/get into racing - these places are great.
I'm with Cameron Karting - if you call, speak to Dave or Brett. Let them know Dino referred them to you + they should give you a good deal.

Getting into Karting - with a school,
check out the Russell school at infineon---decent
i've heard very good things about the Lisa Caceres (sp?) Karting Inc. school up at davis/infineon, as well as Hall's school down in ventura.

The school will just teach you the basics - it's the proper seat time that gets you there

    cheers ,
    Dino
